From InfraWorks to Google Earth

I have an InfraWorks model that contains multiple FBX file buildings, a civil 3D topo file, roads and entities created in InfraWorks.

I need to export these in some way and import them into Google Earth Pro. I've tried to export 3D Model as a .DAE file but it never creates a .DAE file no matter the filename or file location.

Can someone help me with a workflow to take this InfraWorks model and import it into Google Earth?

Open it in 3ds Max, then export out as a collada file.

10-4, I'm giving that a try now. Will the coordinate location carry through with an FBX?

we have it geo-referenced in InfraWorks and would like to appear in the same location in Google Earth.

And there is the question I was dreading. It will not. However, 3ds Max will give you the offset coordinates when you import the FBX. Make note of them. Then when you import the collada file, you will have the give the exact opposite of the coordinates. For example, if the offset coords in Max are X:-1500039 Y:56078, then the imported coords would be X:1500039 Y:-56078

Thanks, does 3ds Max give you the offset coordinates during the import or after? It's currently importing, when it's done where do I find those offset coordinates at? (I don't normally work with 3ds Max)

I just tried it and noticed that the FBX import does not give you the global import shift coords. So, what you can do, is get the coords from a know point, then move the model in 3ds Max to those coords. If you right-click on the move command in Max, then you can manually enter the coords.

I will give that a shot, the "buildings" FBX file from InfraWorks is huge and contains four or five buildings of the site I'm trying to get into Google Earth, hopefully I can move them all at once. So far it is struggling to import the FBX file.

Hi,

We use Plex.Earth to export models from InfraWorks to Google Earth.

First, you have to open your model in Civil 3D and then use Plex.Earth to export it (georeferenced).
