Export FBX model with Simplfied Terrain

Hi,
I was wondering if it's possible to export an FBX model with simplified terrain(model generation --> Terrain Simplification)

So far no matter what terrain simplification setting when I regenerate the model and export as FBX or Obj it all comes out with the unsimplified terrain.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi @Anonymous,

after changing the terrain simplification you will need to "regenerate" the model to apply the news setting (in Settings and Utilities). Switch to a wireframe view of your terrain to observe the difference before and after.

Hi Karsten,

Unfortunately I have already tried regenerating the model and I can see the simplified terrain wireframe inside of infraworks. My question is whether or not it is possible to export that simplified terrain through the FBX Export method(or any method I just need the meshes). If I export from my model with simplified terrains, the exported model has original high poly meshes regardless of how the terrain looks in infraworks and my model generation settings.

Hi @Anonymous,

I have never played with the setting, but from what you are saying I assume the terrain simplification only affects the display of the terrain to improve performance. It does not change the source data. That means, the export reads the source data and does not export the simplified terrain.

maybe a good workaround for you is to export an IMX file to Civil 3D and start a terrain simplification there. Then export the new terrain as IMX again and re-import it into InfraWorks.
