I can see that SolidWorks crashes in the ATI graphics driver. We dont really show anything differently for the latest HSMXpress release. And we could not reproduce the problem either for the same versions.

So you would need to try an old and the latest graphics driver to see if that makes a difference.

I am running Solidworks Premium 2017 SP3 on Windows 10 (fully up to date) and installed the latest version of HSMXpress (downloaded a few minutes ago).

Whenever I do anything in HSM, Solidworks crashes. It doesn't matter if I open an existing file or create a new part, as soon as I do anything in the Cam tab, Solidworks crashes (create a new job, edit anything existing, etc).

HSM starts with Solidworks and it does not seem to cause any issues during start or normal operation, unless I try to use it.

I have completely uninstalled HSM, re-downloaded it and reinstalled it. Same result.

I am not quite sure what to do next.

Hi @Anonymous,

I'll get the team to try to reproduce the issue. There shouldn't be any specific changes that would cause it to crash. But we will confirm as soon as possible.

Can you provide the exact version of HSMXpress so we can test it properly?

Do you have any more information about the crash -- log files? .dmp files in %temp%?

We are not seeing this here with the same build on Windows 10.

Can you confirm that the command in the HSMXpress CAM panel looks correct and you can see them all?

Can you open say the Tool Library and Task Manager from the panel? And can you open Tools -> CAM -> Preferences?

I can open all menus and everything seems to be there. I can open the tool library and view tool or tool holder details. I can make changes to tools and save them. The changes are retained even after a program restart and no crash. The preferences pull up and seem to be complete.

When the crash occurs, Solidworks freezes on the "Solidworks has encountered an error..." screen. After a while the Windows error window with the options "Wait for program to respond" or "Close now" appears behind the previous error message. I waited for several hours and it does not respond. Once I click "close now" I get the Solidworks error report screen. It supplies the following files:

Solidworks Performance Log:

SyntaxEditor Code Snippet

; SolidWorks generated log file - do not edit.

I tried it with some of my files, I tried it with a new, empty file and I tried it with a new file that I created a sketch with a box in and extruded it to have a simple 3 dimensional object. The result is always the same.

I can see that SolidWorks crashes in the ATI graphics driver. We dont really show anything differently for the latest HSMXpress release. And we could not reproduce the problem either for the same versions.

So you would need to try an old and the latest graphics driver to see if that makes a difference.

I reverted to an older version of graphics driver that is Solidworks approved (AMD FirePro 8100 with Driver Packaging Version
16.50.2701-170111a-310593C-Retail_End_User), down from version 17.10.

This seems to have solved the problem.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!
