Radius Mill Offset

Hi,

I'm still pretty new to CNC so I hope this isn't a REALLY dumb question. I'm trying to get a radius mill that has a little offset to drop into proper position. I modified my tool geometry to account for the Tip Length but that number must not carry over into any kind of offset in the operation (using the 2D Contour)? The pic show the simulated issue.

Right now I just drop my Bottom Height a -.032 to make it work. Am I missing something here or is that the normal procedure for these types of tools?

Is that a Form mill that you have created in Inventor HSM?

It is a Radius Mill that I modified by adding Tip Length. I added the Tip Length because the radius does not start immediately from the bottom, it has a little bit of vertical edge before the radius begins.

It would be good to create a template for this kind of operation. Inside this template, put the following in your bottom height offset field:

-tool_tipLength

This will adjust the value when you change tool geometry and ensure the correct result is output.

I didn't even think about putting a parameter into the bottom height offset field. My only question is how did you know how to write that parameter as lowercase/uppercase letters matter? I don't see a list that shows anything like that.

And yes, the template is a great idea : )

Hi Kevin,

The parameters can be found by simply holding down the SHIFT key and hover the mouse over the box that you want to know the parameter from. I can put together a Screencast if that would help?
