After reading your post , I looked at the part in Inventor HSM and could not find a quick and easy solution. I believe that this is something that needs to be put in the HSM idea forum, to be implemented. I would vote for it , because

I myself have to to cut threads that were timed to a certain feature on a part.

I have both Inventor and Fusion at my disposal and I cannot seem to find a way to time/clock my thread mill operation with a feature on my part. Is there any way to adjust the starting position of my thread from an angular standpoint? Am I missing something, or does anyone have a work around?

Thanks,

Dan

This seems to be a limitation of HSM? Other CAM software does it with a check box and and angle.

But I have noticed this in the attached file. Same thread cycle but different Setup's, X axis is flipped and outputs a negative X start position. So as a work around you could rotate the UCS to get the desired start point?

(Thread1)
T1 M6
S5000 M3
G54
G0 X-14.134 Y0.
G43 Z25.

So far this is the only way I have found as well.

Hoping we can get this feature soon. I have a whole family of parts that have timed threads that must mate properly. Most parts don't have a feature that aligns with the necessary thread start point, this makes the sketch/math/WCS/verify workflow unnecessarily time consuming and prone to error.

Are you using the thread mill option in 2-d contour?

I am using HSM for Solidworks and in the linking tab there is a box for entry position, you can sketch a point and select it for entry position.

Maybe this is not the case for you.

Jason

I am using "Thread" from the 2-d operations menu. I have tried in Inventor and Fusion, there is no entry position selection under Linking.

Are you referring to an actual "2-d Contour" operation or just the 2-d vs. 3-d menus? That would be news to me if you could use a "2-d Contour" to thread mill. If so could you please provide a screenshot or two?

Thanks,

Dan

Here is a picture of my linking tab, bummer that the inventor and fusion versions do not have it. Hopefully they will add it.
