HSMWorks Stock Simulation Error with Undercut

I'm having an issue where the stock simulation/tool profile doesn't produce the correct result while undercutting with a double angle reduced shank end mill. I have included a picture to show the error during the stock simulation. I have also included pictures of how the tool is defined in the tool library. In the stock simulation the tools reduced shank ends up being a conical shape instead of a cylindrical. It took me a lot of trial and error to produce the correct tool profile in the tool library. As you can see I had to add a tapered section that's hidden inside the tool holder in order for it to display the reduced shank correctly. With out the extra tapered section the tool in the library will look like it does in the stock simulation. I hope this all makes sense, long story short HSM doesn't handle reduced shank tooling correctly. Stock SimulationTool PropertiesTool SetupShaft Geometry

Hi @ConvexMachine , Have you tried using a form tool. You create the tool in Solidworks. Then I think it will work correctly.

I setup the form tool and it does produce the correct simulation as you've shown. I have found one downside to using the form tool though. When using the tool with a 2D Contour the chamfer check box on the passes tab isn't available, which makes defining the tool path slightly more difficult. However, I am going to attempt using the 2D Chamfer tool path with the form tool and see if it will produce the desired result as well as provided the added control over the tool position.

As a side note, right now I have the tip offset set to be at the point instead of at the bottom, but I'm not sure how that will correlate to the machine when I touch the tool off on the renishaw tool setter.

You have to add the differance of the distnace from the bottom of the tool the cutting point to the tool lenght offset in the machine. That's what I did to work correctly.

I figured I would have to add or subtract the tip offset for the gage length to be correct. I would really prefer if Autodesk would fix the glitch in the chamfer mill scenario. However I do appreciate the help with the work around. Still haven't had a chance to try the 2D Chamfer tool path yet but that might be the ticket.
