Create a tool library in Excel

I'm wanting to create my own tool library complete with speeds and feeds calculated with formulas based on diameter and tool length. Can this be done in Excel? What are the fields needed? How can this be exported as an .hsmlib file?

Hi macenzydaggy,

I guess that can be done.

Just copy a tool in your library and paste it into Excel.

All the parameters from the tool definition will be shown in Excel.

Now you can multiply or change them.

You also can calculate all your feeds and speeds - diameter based now, with a bit of Excel knowledge.

If you are finished you can select everything in Excel and paste it back in the HSM library.

Did hundreds of my tools this way.

All the tool will get created with your calculations.

@macenzydaggy @David_Hackenberg Hello Both, Just jumping on this thread as I would like to inform you that in the new tool library the copy from the library and paste into Excel functionality is not implemented. In the new library you can export as a .tsv file and open in excel and then convert back and import. I have replicated this functionality this morning and can confirm it works fine.

Alternatively, you can continue to use or revert back to the old library.

thanks for the feedback. Seems to be a good idea.

Do you know when the new tool library will be officially available for Inventor CAM or HSMWorks. (Or will it be?)

Right now it is just available in the Feature Flag or in F360?

@David_Hackenberg The new tool library was for Fusion 360 platform and I am not aware of developments on the platforms you mentioned. The new library has been 'On by default' since June this year with the option to revert back to the old library through preferences.
