Installation files

When we download a new version of Inventor HSM Pro, we get three files downloaded. Each file has the same title with the exception of something like -001, -002 in the title. What is disconcerting (and haven't found any mention in forum/help files) is that the first two files are exactly the same size, while the third file is 'supposedly' smaller.

The additional mystery is that 1) when the files go to extract, they all say they total 11.6G or something of that size, and 2) after each extraction, the install dialog opens.

BTW, we use browser download; the automated installation usually fails part way (most likely a result of our gateway or other protection system). The above has happened all three years that we have been using the software.

So the question is - are all these files the same? Do we really only need to download one of the files? Any info greatly appreciated.

Fred

You need to download all three.

But if you extract/Unpack them they will all be used to make one folder(Or file).

So if you extract all three of them you get 3 times the same output.

So download all three, unpack one and you are good to go.

The download is broken up in to 3 downloads of a few gigabytes each. So yes, you need all 3. When you run the installer it self-extracts the data out of all the files then installs. Hope that helps.

If you have download issues in the future, I recommend downloading from the Virtual Agent.

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/account-management/software-downloads/download-methods/virtual-agent

Good Luck!

the numbers at the end of the file name are the clue this means there are 3 parts you need all 3 parts download to the same folder

all you need is to extract part 1 and it extracts all parts

Laurens, Travis, Darren,

Thanks for the info and clarification. The whole situation struck us as a bit odd (particularly the first two files being the exact same size), but as long as it makes sense to someone, we'll be glad to go with the flow

Fred

What they do is this.

We have the installation files which is for example are 10 GB big.

Mix file size is 4GB, what do you get?

File 1: 4GB(Program starts making the package reaches max file size, so wraps it up and you get the max size.)

File 2: 4GB(Still more data than 4GB+4GB So another 4GB. package)

File 3: 2GB(Because there was no more data.(Because 4+4+2=10))

Making them the same size isn't possible because you don't know up front how much you can compress each file.
