How to convert a .stl into a format that I can then convert to CNC G-code?

I downloaded a .stl that is for a 3d printer. I got Autodesk Inventor to accept it, but I can't use CAM to get a tool path then convert it to G-Code. How to I change the format so that I can do this? I have an image of the design.

You should try with the Mesh Enabler plug-in for Inventor.

It worked, but it still has mesh lines which makes it difficult to get a pocket tool path as it recognizes such in mesh triangles. How to I get rid of the mesh lines? I going to send you the file run the simulation to see what I mean.

Well, in that case you have two options.

Either you could select contours instead of a surface or you can create a ruled surface and make a selection based on that surface.

Thanks, but can you give me a more step by step approach. In analogous terms you gave me the fish without teaching me how to fish.
