The reasoning behind this is that at times I have a part that is taller than the home position for the machine and have had a few close calls with the machine going to the X,Y position set with G54 before doing tool height adjustment. I was hoping for it to do the tool height adjustment before the rapid movement to the X,Y position.

First, we should call the initial position of the X and Y axes, and then Z.
If we say Z first then the machine may collide.

Thanks,

I would suggest you use Manual NC.
You can call the XY position manually with the help of Manual NC.

(FACE1)

N35 T2 M6

(MITSUBISHI WSX445UR0204AA WSNGU140812ANFR-L TF15 INSERTS)

N40 T3

N45 S5000 M3

N50 X Y // measure the length of tool and set it in offset.

N55 G54

N60 G0 X120.65 Y-45.559

N65 G43 Z1405.89 H2

Please refer the post processor training guide for more detail.
