Fusion 360 CAM post for Roland MDX-540 A axis (4th Axis)

Hi,

I can't find a post processor which supports the 4th axis to our Roland MDX 540 machines.

Any ideas on where I go from here?

You just need to enable multi-axis in the post... attached post has the A axis enabled and works fine on our machine in NC mode. I haven't bothered getting the A axis enabled in an RML post as I prefer ISO.

Will your kindly provided A axis enabled Roland iso post work with my Roland MDX650 with ZCL-650 rotating A axis and 4 bay tool changer?

I am extremely unfamiliar with editing post processor files and somewhat nervous to do so. I will read over the pinned topics from the link you provided asap.

I never would have thought that one could just enable the A axis, where was this change in the post processor file accomplished at?

It has been an ongoing search for years to find a means to run the 650 with the indexed rotating axis, it would be a complete game changer for me if I could finally accomplish CAM operations as such. Especially if it is accomplishable with Fusion 360 or even Solidworks Cam(threw HSMWorks).

I don't have access to an MDX 650 so can't comment on whether it will work or not - if your 4th axis rotates around X it should work fine, but test it carefully. You may need to ensure the setup origin is on the rotational axis, I forget as it's been a while since I used that machine.

I really appreciate the info and direct link to the 4/5 axis FAQ. It would seem the wall I am hitting is the post generates with Y and A specified at the same time. Where if specifying Y axis and A axis within the same block results in a error. The ZCL650 can only operate in XYZ or XZA simultaneously according to the documentation.

It may just be an setup struggle I am having with Fusion 360, but no matter what I did for orientations, I couldn't seem to get the post to generate without using the Y axis. Oddly it generated using Y where I would have expected X to been utilized.
