Hi all,

I am a french user of fusion 360. In Fusion team, when I upload a 3D (.step or .prt from Creo) with the same name than an existing file, Fusion does not propose me to overwrite the previous one but it creates a redundant file with the same name. How can I avoid this ? Thanks

Hi, Fusion doesn't honor name description redundancy. This is to allow user workflows where a user might want to keep various files with the same name.
In the backend, your files have different internal IDs, so changes made to one won't bother other files with the same name. But yes, you need to be careful with naming. Perhaps you may want to rename your older versions by date.

Thanks,

That's a pity for me because several persons in my team can transfer files from our PDM (Audros) to Fusion 360 (used only by the sales department) and we would like to not have many files with the same name. I Think we need time to time to clean up our workspace in Fusion. However, I understand the need to have unique ID so that you can manage several version of a same component.

Sorry Rachid, I misread your earlier post and replied in haste.

1. My earlier statement is still correct for the Fusion design file.

2. But for your case, (that is, other file types), file name redundancy should be taken care of. That is, if you drag and drop XYZ.prt.1 for five times, you should still see only one file in Fusion Team with version as V5.
I suspect you might be uploading Creo files that have different file extensions like XYZ.prt.1 and then XYZ.prt.2

Hi,

I am uploading .prt with exactly the same extension (.prt.7). If I upload 2 times the same file, I have 2 icons (with the same name). I would have liked to get one icon only with version management.

Thanks

I just tried once again in Fusion Team, uploaded body.prt.6 three more times and as expected the file's version kept on increasing without creating any redundant copy.

Can you pls share a screenshot from the Fusion Team (web viewer)?

However, I have installed fusion connector to link my cloud directories to my windows browser and I can see this :

The extension is ".Fusiondesign" while most of the files where imported into Fusion in ".prt". The pop-up message is in french. It means "One or several files have the same name and cannot be displayed. Rename them in web interface". I hope that is clear

Ahh! this is Fusion design, so as I mentioned earlier in my 1st (and 3rd) reply, it won't handle redundant files names. Each file (even with exact same name) is considered as a separate file (having a unique internal ID even though the user-facing name is the same).

I thought you are uploading Creo files and not getting file name redundancy handled, that is why I was asking for re-confirmation. I think we are clear now.
