thicken command

I am trying to change the thickness value of the board model in order to create a different negative surface. I am seeing that there is missing geometry, though I am not sure why or how. Any suggestions? I want an efficient way to do this as I will need to do this to all of my molds.

My usual workaround for things like this where I cannot seem to edit a feature, is to copy and past. That doesnt seem to work here. Anyone know how I can copy the positive surface and thicken that?

Thicken command will probably give you trouble since the surface is flat. As the Thicken command works various surfaces will interfere with each other and fail. In my Screencast I used the Offset Surface command to create a copy of the initial surface. Then I created a sketch plane at the desire thickness from this surface (I just eyeballed one) and then projected to it the surface edges. Then a simple Extrude using the To option creates the new body.

So cool to have a personal tutorial with my own model! Thanks so much for taking the time! Unfortunately, the goal I am trying to achieve wasn't addressed here. I want to take the surface, add thickness to it (.5300"), and then use this thickened body to split a piece of stock into a positive and a negative mold which account perfectly for a layup of .5300". This cant be done by offsetting the surface, since that only moves the existing surface. I need to actually stretch the surface to create the negative side after the material thickness has been accounted for.

I will try again. That word "stretch" is not in the vocabulary of Fusion 360 so it is really throwing my understanding off. Take a look at the Screencast and see if it is what you desire. The negative mold now has a surface that matches the "Stock" body in the model.

This doesnt account for material thickness. You are simply moving around the surface. Take note of the existing models. The current "board left" accounts for .46". You will see that the top and bottom surface on that mold are not identical. They account for a .46'' material thickness. I need a simple way to adjust this dimension.

I activated all your bodies, I see the "board" and what I have already shown you will modify the mode to create a different board thickness. I put your mold together. and as you can see, moving the positive mold into the negative mold and any distance with create a different board thickness.

So I will call it quits on this as it seems I cannot understand your needs. Good luck moving forward.

Not quite, thanks for trying. This does not properly account for material thickness. An understanding of lamination may be necessary for this. Thickness is not only in the z axis, it is an offset of each point on a given surface in the direction that is perpendicular to the surface at that point.

I understand how and I also fully understand your original problem description.

But I edit Sketch11?? and there are no dimensions???

There are no sketches for the starting bodies????

Moves are almost never needed (not needed in this design).

Sketches 12, 13 & 14 are not fully defined?????

I recommend that you start over from scratch and Attach you new attempt at each step along the way.

i hope you can understand I am trying to avoid that copious amount of work... I am also dont see how those sketches can be affecting the mold. These surfaces are organic and really specific but I cant give them dimensions. What exactly is the issue? Could you be more specific? The sketches you mentioned are not controlling the design if the bodies I am trying to modify.
