Hi,

You can project profiles of bodies (also sections) into sketches as required and then dimension them.

günther

i have a question to any one who may have answer

say you created your model step by step using solids and extrudes cut outs but there was never a base sketch made so there is no overall dimensions or show dimensions in the right click menu so is there a way to select completed model and having it recreate a sketch from the model to acquire sketch with dimensions from solid....?

what is your goal here, @Anonymous ? There are ways to create a sketch from a solid, one of which @g-andresen listed. Another is to create a workplane that slices through the middle of the body, sketch on it, then Project -> Intersect with the body, and add (driven) dimensions. But, this will NOT make your design parametric, based on that sketch - the sketch will be dependent on the body, not the other way around. If you are looking to have a sketch that you can reference in a drawing, that might work, but it seems it would be easier just to dimension the drawing itsef.

i think both ways that you both listed are options i can work with new to program never used project or intersect functions yet so be small learning other wise i am left to redrawing the image on the image with lines but the issue doing it that way was i had used cylinders and squares for cut outs to achieve my arced square shape and using the squiggly line to or arc tool hasn't given me the same result

my goal was to window select my entire solid right click and click a button that says create sketch from solid like the component or create new body function and it would then take the solid dimensions to create the solid and just push out a 3d sketch.... you know simple easy methods 😛 but if i cant get this simple sounding project method i'll be left figuring how to get the cutouts on a sketch press pull and get my extrudes as i noticed extrudes and cuts don't seem to take away on press pull bodys vs solid bodys i could be doing something wrong

thanks for the options much appreciated i do not think i would have ever explored project.....
