Simple operation on rectangular pattern

Hi,

Question from a newbie.

I want to fill the side of a wooden box with wood boards so I use Rectangular Pattern.

The amount of wood boards is calculated, depending on a Height parameter of the box, and a Width parameter of a single wood board.

Now I want to cut the top board.

I use the tool "modify" -> "split body" by using a plane.

The result is that every board is cut, which is not desirable of course.

Can you advice me on how to do this correctly?
