Thanks,

I'm not sure what is going on, why the folder was empty. The DXF you sent bask is a partial of what the actual design is. my friend has sent it 3 different times and it has been the same. I'm new to this, but learning. I will check the website on differences in funtionalality of the free site vs. the paid.

Thanks again

Chris

Hello,

I recently purchased the Langmuir Systems CrossFire Pro plasma table and have downloaded the free version of Autodesk Fusion 360. A friend of mine who is a Mechanical Engineer sent me a DXF file the he traced in Auto Cad. I am unable to download the file form computer into Fusion 360. I get and error that says fails to import and have also got a warning the states The selected DXF file does not contain units of information. The design's units will be used. You can change this with the units drop down. I don't se a units drop down on the my format. Is this because it is the free version, is there a difference in capabilities in the free and paid version?

Thanks

Chris

Zip up the DXF file and Attach it to a forum post so the forum users can take a look. A quick guess is the DXF you were sent is 3D and Fusion 360 will not import that.

jackney1972,

Thanks for the response. I zipped two files and attached them. My CNC table is 48"x33" and our intent is to make two cuts and weld the two pieces together.

Does the paid version of Fusion 360 have more capabilities?

Thanks

Chris

First of all the MG left side.dxf file is empty as you can see from the attached screen capture. The MG right side.dxf is extremely heavy with a size over 7 MB. It opened but took an extremely long time, it is attached as a Fusion 360 file. Your last question can be answer by going to this website and read about some of the differences in the Fusion 360 licenses.

I'm afraid you're not going to have much luck or fun trying to work with DXF files like this in Fusion. I opened in Rhino and exploded the sketch and it's made from almost 10,000 curves, Fusion is going to struggle with more than a 1,000 or so.

What's a bit odd with this file is it has some splines that keep the size down but some other curves are polylines made of lots of small line segments.

For example the yellow highlighted curve is a single spline but the outline that goes around the whole sketch is 1494 line segments. Fusion's just no the right program for this sort of work.

Not sure why the original DXF is so big, after saving the file from Rhino it's about 2Mb and opens with all the detail in Fusion, see attached file.
