So it seems there were some add ins there, I don't recall adding them but I must have at some point (unless they come as default?). Anyway I have disabled them and the problem remains the same.

I've just installed Autodesk Screencast then so I can get you a video from it. I've shared a private screencast with you (https://autode.sk/36GYP1x) showing the opening process, with it all working for a F3d and then failing for a STEP and a STP.

This is my version of screencast

Thanks for continuing to look into this.

Cheers,

Kyle

Hi All,

I've been having an issue where existing CAD files uploaded to Fusion or opened from my computer (STEP, STL etc) cannot be edited in Fusion. I cannot rotate/zoom/pan in the new file with my mouse (although I can with my 3d mouse), or perform any editing functions (sketch, extrude etc.). If I right click on model in the browser, Fusion crashes. As a result there is no way to turn modelling from direct to parametric.

This issue can be bypassed by making a new assembly, then putting the file into it and editing the file in the assembly context, or by using 'save copy as' from the assembly menu then opening the saved copy. Saving the copy is the only way to allow capturing of design history.

I have tried opening these files on a different computer and everything seems to be fine, so I'm guessing it's a specific setting somewhere that's different.

Any help would be appreciated.

Windows 10, 32GB ram, 512SSD + 2x2TB HDDs, 1060 graphics, I7-6700, not sure where I go to check fusion version but it updates frequently.

Cheers,

Kyle

Hi,

This sounds really strange. I work on crash issues and this is new to me. Do you get a crash error report (CER) when this happens?

Can you possibly share one of these designs? Use File > Share > Share public link. If it's private, you can always send via PM to my forum inbox. Or just attach one here if you can.

Thanks,

Thanks for the response Phil.

Yep no problem, I've created a simple box that triggers the issue (attached here), as it happens with any STEP or STL file. Made the box in fusion, exported it as a step, then uploaded back into fusion and can't edit it. I've attached the F3d, I can upload this and then edit it successfully.

In terms of error report I get one if I trigger it into crashing by right clicking on the browser, but otherwise not. Would you like me to force crash it to get you an error report?

I probably should also mention that this issue has been happening for a while now (at least 2 months?), so I don't think it's related to any recent updates. Starting to wonder if it's going to need a clean uninstall/reinstall, although I would prefer to avoid that if it's something fairly simple.

Thanks for the files. I'll try to reproduce it.

If you could please take a moment or two to reproduce it again that would help. I did find an older report (thanks for sending those!) but at this time it would be good to compare with a new report.

In general, always send every CER report please, especially repeated crashes. If the systems I use detect repeated crashes they get attention faster. It's impossible to do this without automatic detection of such patterns.

Thanks for sending those reports. Nothing jumps out, but I'm not done with them.

Do you have any kind of non-default add-in running? Or any kind of special CAM settings or extensions?

And just to be clear, how exactly are you opening the designs when it does this? Which workflow are you using:

File > Open > (open a stp/stl)?

Or are you using

Upload > Open resulting file from the data panel

So to answer your questions:

Nope nothing non-standard, it's just a pretty vanilla setup with mesh workspace turned on.

In terms of workflow, I've tried both and get the same result either way, not 100% right now but I think those reports were generated using Upload>open

Thanks again

Thanks for that.

It brings to mind something we need to check. When you cannot select anything, what is on the Selection Filter menu? Open the select menu, and look at the last entry, it shows a flyout of all the active selection filters while a command is running. In your case, it might show every item on the list is not ticked. You'd get the same selection behavior if something turned off the entire filter set, which is possible. You can see the tick box to turn them all on/off right there.

Which brings me to my next hunch. The addins list you show has default addins, all but one. PointAtCoord is looking very related to your workflow (see the description of what it does). Even after installing it I cannot reproduce the effect. If you right click on it in the add-ins list an option to find it's folder pops up. I wonder if deleting it entirely might help at this point.

Yep, so I've deleted PointAtCoord, still the same issue unfortunately.

Selection filters are as such (screenshot taken while the issue was occurring, although on a different file):

Worth noting though that while it may not be obvious in that screencast I sent you, after opening the Step files I am attempting to rotate them (much like I do with the F3d at the start of the cast) and they refuse to move for that.

Quite the conundrum it seems!

Cheers,

Kyle
