Transitioning to Fusion 360 from Sketchup

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone at Autodesk as well as the support community. What a great time to live in; I really appreciate the fact that there are so many people willing to share their experience.

A little about me and my experience with CAD. I started CAD/CAM in high school, can not for the life of me remember what program we used. I think it was an Autodesk product though, late 90's time frame. I took a class in which we designed our dream house, then later made a scale model of it. The bulk of my experience comes from my use of Rev 14. Multiple small projects were created, mainly conceptual and for fun. Then most recently, I have been using Sketchup. It has been fairly easy to use, however, I'm not happy with the transition to Trimble and the costs associated with that transition. I don't mind paying a fee, but with that fee I had better be getting the best product available. In my humble opinion, Autodesk is a far superior product and IT'S FREE for hobby users.

What I need help with is this: I primarily design and draw small buildings, Garages, Sheds, and small houses. I do this primarily for my own purposes, things I want to build in the near future or how I want to modify my house. With Sketchup, it is every intuitive for these purposes and probably most of my problems arise for lack of experience with Fusion 360. Some specific issues that I am having are mainly with materials, i.e.: I do not see concrete as a material to use as a garage floor, or pressure treated lumber(Sketchup doesn't have this either). Maybe I should be using a different Autodesk product, I don't know!

Any advice or help from the Autodesk team and this community would be greatly appreciated.

First a distinction between materials and appearances must be understood.

You coud paint a block of wood with the Appearance of Gold, but that doesn't give it the Material Properties of Gold.

If you paint a block of Gold Material (in the real world) to have the Appearance of pressure treated wood - I will gladly pay you the price of the wood for the block of gold material.

In Fusion you can create custom materials.

I recommend that you create one sketch and attach it here.

Then I recommend that you create one feature (Component) and Attach it here.

Step-by-step you can pick up the best practices for Parametric Design.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?
