Weird issue while making a cut

Hi.
I found this issue while I was trying to make a simple cut.
The problem is that, if I cut with "All" the operation is incontrolable and Fusion do the cut in the wrong orientation. The direction gliph or the change direction from the property panel doesn´t work at this case.
Is it a bug?

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

Can you reproduce the behavior in a new file?

What is your intended direction?

Up? Down? Both?

Hi!

In this message you have linked the test model that I have used.

The behaviour is the same over and over again in a new files. I think the issue is caused by the shell.

I have modeled this part in Inventor following the same steps using the same tools and works fine, but in Fusion ... not

The intended directión is -Y

As for being able to drag the sketch around as in your video, I am unable to replicate that isue here so all I can do is help a little with the cutting of the slot 🙂

The cutting of the slot seems to work fine here, just a matter of getting the Setup correctly orientated as far as I can tell. I just used a rough stock block, you can refine the stock by creating another model with the slot filled in and then use that as the stock.

??? Wrong direction, you posted for -Y, that is the direction it is cutting 🙂

You have the Model as "Y axis up", I have assumed that the machining would be done on a standard 3 axis CNC which would be "Z axis up", is that the confusion ??

@engineguy , sorry for the confusion, but at no point did I talk about machining the part 😊
I'm just modeling it so for me the positive Y is where the green arrow points and the negative Y is the opposite of the direction the arrow points 🙂

Hi @engineguy ,

The issue is not inside CAM environment triying to specify the tool-path direction , as @Francisco_García told you the problem it's at the extrusion command (designing the part).
Same issue here making the same steps, no issue doing the same with Inventor.

In design, no such issue as far as I can tell, simple cut extrusion appears to do the job the job here 🙂 ???

@engineguy , that’s not the point.

The problem is not that the extrusion is not performed, the creator of the thread also has the design made. The downside is that when you select the option "all" the direction arrows do not coincide with the direction of the extrusion, take a good look at the animation that is attached to the first messages.

Yes, I do think I understand your first issue, you are not able to "flip" the direction of the cut when using the "All" option, this may be because it has no material above the sketch so can`t show a cut. or maybe because the default was to "New Body" in which case the "flip" doesn`t work at all, anyway, here is the screencast, if it doesn`t embed properly then there is a link to it as well 🙂

In my second comment I linked the model with which I have detected the problem.
Download it, analyze it and do all the tests you want with it. Only then will you understand what Im saying

🙂 🙂 That`s OK, I am always wrong 🙂 :), however can you please show me where there is material above the sketch plane, bearing in mind that the boss in the middle has a slot already modeled into it so there is no material at that point.

The sketch is drawn on the top of the large area so nothing on top ??? Yes ??? Body is at 50% opacity for clarity.

OK, we will just have to agree to disagree on that for the sake of peace and harmony, still say there is no material where the slot is but that is "water under the bridge" as they say 🙂

What I have come across is that yes, I am wrong but it looks like we are ALL wrong in the way we were expecting the "All" option to work, I along with everyone else it would seem was expecting the option to cut both ways, however looking at the dialog boxes we were only selecting "One side" for the direction and then expecting to be able to "toggle" the cut up or down, pretty easy assumption to make but I don`t think that was how the Developers intended it, I want two sides then I should select "Two Sides" for the direction and then just choose the "All" to save me from having to measure the distances and inputting then individually, great time saver to be sure, that I think is how the Developers intended it to be used.

Yes, there is a "glitch" or "bug" when trying to use the "All" option on side 2, which, when selected everything disappears, ouch! But, help is at hand, just go back to the "Distance" option for side 2 and the side 2 cut then appears and the cut can be made.

Hopefully someone will contact the Developers and at least ask if the flow I have outlined is what they intended and also if they will be adressing the Side2 issue anytime soon. probably not as the click back to the "Distance" option is a super fast two click "workaround".
