Engraving tool cutting too deep

Good evening,

Please forgive me if I get some of the terms mixed up with this I am new to Fusion 360 and CNC work. I have been trying to get my cnc to engrave some very simple Arial black text for going on 3 days now. I need the engraving to be at least .125 inches in height and a minimum of .003" deep. I have been over the set-up and tool path over and over again however it keeps wanting to do the engraving over .25" deep. Why is the Z axis not keeping the correct information when processing the gcode? I am thinking about subscribing to Fusion 360 however if this cannot work for easy measurements I may have to consider some other software instead. I really like many of the features, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

For constant Z height work, don't use Engrave. That's more of a "V-Carve" style toolpath, where the Z will vary in depth to achieve the proper width of the designated text. Rather, create your text with the "single line fonts":

For toolpath, use Trace instead.
