Sometimes -in fact I think all times with constructed planes- sketch origin seems randomly located relatively to the actual project/model origin.

Please see screenshot attached :

-New project.

-Construct plane at angle.

-Create sketch on that plane.

-> origins mismatch.

Why ?

Thanks.

Steve

I believe that that the offset plane origin symbol shows up in different locations depending on how the offset plane was generated. I think it can be in the center of the geometry that it was referenced to (e.g. a projected line) or even where the mouse click occurred when using some other offset planes defined in other ways. I did one design that used several offset planes at angles defined by parameter driven equations. Occasionally the model would blow up and do a crazy rotation about the offset plane origin so I tried all of the different ways of defining the plane to see if one was better behaved than others. I eventually gave up and recreated the model. That's a long way of saying that I don't find the offset plane origin very useful and I always employ something else to get things tied back to the model origin. In fact, I didn't realize I've trained myself to ignore the symbol and had to open some sketches in my current design to confirm that it's there. 😉

I think you'll find lots of discussion on this subject if you do a search but in the meantime I'd just ignore it and make sure the sketches are referenced to the model origin.

Thanks !

So there is indeed an issue on the origin placement of constructed planes. If not technical, at least a logical or conceptual issue.
The "logic" should be documented to explain the technical choice (and maybe it is, but where ?). We, users, could act at an earlier state instead of realizing a bit late that we were unconsciously too "logic".

Now I know I have to check and refer somehow to the model origin on every constructed plane.

Thanks again.

Steve
