Feature request: cancel operation when taking too long

No idea how viable this would be to program in, but it is something that can really cause me quite a lot of frustration. I do a lot of complex modelling, and sometimes I'll ask fusion to do something and it'll just hang, perhaps for 5 minutes or more, while it tries to figure it out. Just now I had a couple of old features I'd left inactive later in the design timeline, and tried to roll forward into them to activate them (couldnt even remember what they were). 5 minutes later, fusion decides it cannot do it, and I'm locked out the entire time. I've had quite a few instances when I've just given up, crashed out/reloaded fusion just to try and cancel the operation.

So, request: when fusion detects something like this, when the calculations are just taking too long, please could I have a little box I can click on that simply says "cancel"?? And it effectively acts as an undo for what I was attempting.

Hi,

If you upload the file and tell us which action (sketches, solids, surfaces...) causes the problem, we might be able to give you hints on how to avoid the problem.

Thanks, but not possible, and not really the point - sometimes fusion just struggles to do what I am asking. Maybe I'll try and delete a face, or maybe I'll roll forward the timeline into features that are trying to modify something that isnt present any more. There is no single operation that causes problems. My suggestion is a general workaround, that's all.

As long as one does not know why this state occurs, one will hardly be able to stop or reverse it.

It's basically just an "undo" button that can be clicked before an operation is completed processing, as in - cancel whatever I just asked you to do, and forget it. Conceptually it is very simple. The difficulty I can see it that while fusion is chugging away, it is not open to any user input, but I am sure that could be solved.

I get what rob is saying and I think anyone who does complex modelling understands what he's saying. Whenever a mistake in modelling is made fusion can go into a state where its thinking, its trying to do what you've asked, but what you've asked may take it 5-15 minutes to complete. It's not immediately clear at the time that the task would take a long time, is it at all possible to ask fusion to stop trying to execute a command? This would be an extremely useful function.

We've beaten that horse to death on the forum years ago. It's unlikely going to happen. At least not any time soon.

Yes, missing feature to have a processing in separate thread, so UI is not blocked and you are able to cancel long-lasting operation is very important. Sometimes I just have to terminate the application and restart just to fix stupid selection mistake.

For instance, trying to make the shell of the surface with multiple holes (like speaker grill), when I forget to select all the holes to be included — it simply destroys the whole workflow.

I'm afraid they simply cant..... Every autodesk product (look Maya) misses that feature. It's very annoying to kill the entire application just because an operation hang the process

This single feature would elevate the experience from mind numbing rage to something I'd be willing to pay a subscription for.

It is pretty annoying the frequency with which fusion will freeze trying to calculate something based on an accidental mouse drag or forgetting to set a complex component invisible when extruding (leading to it auto-selecting a cut operation and, you guessed it, locking up indefinitely). Having to terminate the process in order to stop it, most likely leading to lost work, is absolutely infuriating. If there was a cancel button, it would go back to only pretty annoying, and the value of the tool would outweigh the annoyance.

While you wait for this to be implemented - Save early and save often and be ready to Ctrl Alt Del (or whatever the equivalent is on Mac) at any time.

I'd love this. I used the rectangular pattern for an array of 20,000 small circles in a sketch like 15 minutes ago, and I'm definitely ready to try that some other way.

I'm currently stuck in the infinite loop as well right now. Just trying to explode complex text... been about 10 minutes and I don't want to lose my project. By the way I have a recent i7, 16GB ram, RTX 2070 so not a hardware concern necessarily.

super old thread but stumbled upon this when googling to see if it were possible! I haven't saved in ages and i accidentally typed 0621mm on a fillet with a complex shape, I meant to do 0.621mm.. Anyway I'm 15 minutes in with no end in sight. I'm trying to avoid crashing out as i hadn't saved in ages. Would love a cancel current action button and revert to just before i clicked enter!

The autosave feature in fusion is pretty good, if I were you I'd close and
reopen, odds are you'll be fine

Exactly this. I just attempted to raise some text 2mm, and 20 min later (after refreshing coffee and shaving), the program is still hung up. Just a simple "Cancel operation" to stop the process which is having issues would be a game changer.

I’ve seen this request in the SolidWorks, Creo (Pro/E) and Inventor forums for 20 years. I wouldn’t hold my breath for this.

another up for implementing a feature like this, to be able to cancel a time consuming operation.

Usually you can get by by saving in advance of a expected time consuming feature to have a 'manual' backup point. And use this to get back to modelling by terminating a stuck Fusion.

However, since Fusion is cloud based, and I have a large model project at a client location with poor internet, pressing the save button and Fusion uploading will take 40min. every time to make a 'manual' restore point.

Can you Export to local drive and work off line while connection is poor?
