Cant add to sketch, getting error related to fillet, but cant delete fillet.

In this design, sketch 5 has no errors, but I cannot add anything to the sketch without getting an error related to a fillet (I assume its filet7 which is the only red item in the timeline)

I cant delete the offending fillet as no context menu appears when I right click like usual.

did a compute all, and rebooted the PC, but still cant add to the sketch.

Hi @HenryDara ,

Can you attach the design that you have issue with sketch in Fusion 360? You can export by File>Export *.f3d/*.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply.

exporting the F3Z now, no selection for F3D in export menu. its taking a long time.....

Hi @HenryDara ,

Yes, If you have External referenced files linked with the design then the file will be exported as .f3z and it takes time

Oddly enough, I pushed the timeline cursor to the end, and it repaired filet 7, but I still can add to the sketch. (same fillet related error)

I take that back, Fillet 7 is no longer Red in the timeline, but it cannot be edited, moved, or deleted in the timeline, so it is still a problem.

Hi @HenryDara ,

I was able to delete, Edit and Move Fillet7.

Deleting Fillet7 causes some of the downstream features to go sick, but it can be repaired.

So strange, I am able to edit it now as well. In the screencast you could see there was no reaction to the left click.

either case, my main issue still exists, where I cannot edit the sketch, so fillet 7 may have been a different issue, but I still think they are related. (could be wrong)

The timeline is clean start to finish, so to me there are no apparent errors in this design that should cause these issues.

I could easily redo the sketch, but I would like to know why this happened so I can avoid the same in the future.

There is something real odd about that fillet. If you roll the timeline to the end the error goes away, if you then activate the component the fillet is part of, the fillet is the first feature, before any solids have been created! Don't know how this could happen, have you dragged features along the timeline?

Here's the timeline for the problem component and the fillet is the first feature!!

Whoa! that is weird.... Something very strange is afoot at the circle K 🙂

I cant remember for sure if I have dragged anything in this component's timeline, but I do at times, so it is possible.

When I get a chance (later today) I will go through past revs to narrow down where the problem came in to the design.

To fix the problem (unknown cause) I just pulled an older design forward, and threw away a few days of work. Good thing is, it always goes faster doing something the second time. 🙂

I just hope it doesnt happen again, but my guess is it will....

If autodesk has any interest in following up on this problem I can share my prev revs if that will help.

Tried "Compute all" but that didnt fix this odd mirage on my model. Happened when I deleted Filet 7 (original post) after rolling back to an earlier revision of this design.

It looks like what happenned by looking through the different revs, is that Filet 7 was from on a body created later in the timeline than the filet itself (should be impossible). then it seems the feature was dragged back in the timeline to before the point that the body existed. That seems to be why it is the very first thing in the component timeline it is part of as mentioned above by Mark Hughes.

This was a variable length fillet, which can only be on one edge, so its not a matter of 1 fillet used in more than one component, or even body.

@HughesTooling - Yes, I think that this is likely the result of a feature reorder gone wrong. You should not be able reorder a feature before its dependencies, but in this case, Fillet7 is definitely in that state - that is why it fails. As to why you cannot select it at times is: Fusion blocks selection of any feature for which the owning feature is either rolled out or suppressed. I don't like this behavior - we should allow feature selection in any case. Fillet7 is owned by "

PF-HC02-Assy Hot End Carrier Assembly", so in the state of the model as shared, that feature is not present in the design ,so it cannot be selected until the feature that creates that component is to the left of the timeline. This is further indication that the problem is reorder based, somehow. We'd love to know how this happened, so if you have any clue as to that, it would be helpful. I know that is not your priority, and it should not be, but if you do come across a way to reproduce it, let us know. We have seen a small number of these, and have not be able to reproduce them.

@HenryDara - it sounds like you were able to get up and going again, which is good. Apologize for the lost time.

@jeff_straterThanks for the splanation. I actually still seem to have a problem with the mirage faces, which make me consider moving forward with a potentially corrupted design, or backing up and losing even more work. Obviously I would rather be able to move forward with this design if I can fix the oddities the fillet caused. You asked @HughesTooling how it happened, but I am the originator of the problem design. All I can say is I dragged the fillet as I might normally do, and Fusion let me do it. Sorry I dont have better detail, but things happen fast, and its near impossible to remember for sure the order of events, especially when the problem shows itself days later. (I tend to let F360 control the space time continuum 🙂 I can provide past revs if that will help you guys dig into this problem. Even if someone recalled what they might have done, I wouldnt trust their memory.
