Finding the source directory of a linked component

Again, this must be a daft question! I have some linked components in an assembly that were 'borrowed' from another project. Since I have quite a deep and complex file/project structure, how do I quickly find where that linked component originates from?

Hi @Swarfmaker

At this time, there is no easy way in Fusion360 to find the origin folder/project of the linked components in an assembly. We are aware of this shortcoming and will provide tools to improve this experience.

But for now, one good place to find the information is in the Fusion Team web interface. If you go to the Overview of the assembly in FusionTeam, you will see Design References section. The Uses tab under it shows all the external components in this assembly (see attached image). Clicking on each item will open the overview of that particular design in Fusion Team and will show the location of that file in your Project. Hope this helps.

We are coming up with ways to improve this experience.

Thank you for your reply @gautham_kattethota. I really look forward to having this fundamental facility in place since it can be so time wasting without that linkage. Any chance that it can be given a push!

@Swarfmaker I am honestly surprised that this isn't asked more often.

The Fusion 360 team spends quite a bit of resources on developing tools to create complexity, but almost none on tools that actually help us manage that complexity, starting with simple and straight forward ways to find the root/source document of references, be they linked components or derived objects.

Let alone proper tools to help untangle the mess that is being created now.
