Insert Holes in Tangent Plane on Curved Surface

I need to insert 4 holes, 2 each side of the central connectors, as shown in the attached model.

I have placed a tangent plane where holes will be placed about 1 inch apart in the vertical direction off the center of the curved plate. The holes are for #12 wood screws to attach the component to a wood post. I can build a screencast if necessary but I am unable to get the hole dialog, from the Solids->Hole to work ??

I was attempting to use the hole command and not the extrude and cut method. The hole command allows for the hole to accommodate a flathead screw with a tapered head. What you've provided is excellent and I'll have to study it a bit. Could you make a screencast but this time use the hole command.

You have requested a Screencast from the wrong individual, @g-andresen was the original responder, but I will be happy to give you one. I did not show the holes mirrored to the opposite side in the Screencast but I am sure that is not an issue, they are in the attached model. Just use the same sketch and create holes instead of extruding/cutting
