Hi there

New to fusion but was working it out no problems with tool selection, pathing etc. I started using 2d sketches and manually creating the heights for milling on our CNC. I've since changed and started making 3d models made up of different components required to complete the model.

Current project is a simple speaker box which has the 6 outer sides including top, bottom, front, back, left and right. It also has other parts for internal strength. I could get a full sheet laid out flat and pathed no problem. The issue is when I use the Nest feature I cant generate any toolpaths whatsoever. I cant select any geometry from the nested sheets, only from the 3d model with all components in place not nested to a flat sheet of wood. Ive tried lots of things and getting nowhere so thought I would try here.

A link to the file is here:

https://a360.co/3jKA8Jc

Please if anyone can help me out I would be super grateful.

Your assembly is a mess! I do not know why you even tried to assembly it, just place the components in the assembly and move on to manufacturing. I believe you will have a lot better luck using the Arrange command than Nesting. I have attached my version of your model using the arrange command but that is where I stopped. I also did not know the exact sheet size you wanted to use so I just created one where all components fit with a 6mm gap between all components which may or may not be correct for you tools. Model is attached.

Hi Jack

Thanks for the time to take a look. I can select geometry on your model no problem. I am just unsure if how you got there helps my overall issue as such. I can manually place the components flat no problem and toolpath them. However what I am trying to achieve is a QTY of 8 of this model. I cant work out how to use the arrange feature to do that whereas the nest feature does it nicely. I just cant do anything from then on. Also with the assembly part I'm not sure which section you are referring to here? Do you mean I don't need to assemble it in the design mode or the manufacture mode? I still want a 3d model to see the finished product but then only need the components flat onto a 1200x2400 sheet of 19mm ply for tooling in the manufacture section. Once again I am very new to fusion and worked out how to get it all working by only doing the 1 speaker but trying to save time on multiple thought I'd give the nesting a go. I found 8 speakers used 9 sheets which is cheaper per box to build than 1 speaker using 2 sheets. Any chance you could create a screen record for me of how you would go about it?

First of all, I do not own a license for the Nesting Extension so I cannot use it to correct your model. I am showing you how I would do it using the Arrange command. You said you wanted to make eight speaker cabinets, I am going to do an arrangement for one sheet of material you can copy it to eight if you desire. You will notice in the video, all your components will fit on one 1200mm x 2400mm sheet except one. I choose the Port Top component to eliminate from the main sheet arrangement. At the end I use this component only, and copy it to match as many main layouts as you created, and arranged them on one sheet. So if you are creating eight, you will do 8 main arrangements and one arrangement of 8 Port Top components. I chose the Port Top component, you can choose any one you desire but I found it the best.

I included a comment in the video about your assembly and demonstrated how you should assembly an assembly using Joints, not Move. I did not include adding all the toolpaths in the video but they are all in place in the model which is attached. NOTE: I only applied the toolpaths to demonstrate, you must check them for accuracy and it they fit your machine.

@Anonymous it would occur to me that you missed @jhackney1972;'s comment that your assembly is a mess.

I would consider this a complete re-do, from scratch.

Your timeline is broken beyond repair, because you deleted the sketches essential for this to be a parametric model.

Then, instead of using joints, you arranged the geometry using the body-move command.
