Hello,

I am having issue with "Offset Face" function found in "Design" environment, "Solid", "Modify" list. I have been recreating same 3D model in the past and there was no issues, now I wanted to recreate it again and "Offset Face" function stopped working the way it worked before recent updates.

I noticed this issue, when I was trying to use "Save Copy As" on that 3D model component. File got exported, but when I open it, there are warning in the timeline and model doesn't look the way it looked initially.

I am attaching few images, video and a file.

Correct 3D modelModel after "Save Copy As"

the offset appears to be working as I expect in the attached model. Without the original to compare to, I can't really say why it works differently. Save Copy As does sometimes have to change the exported recipe, if, for instance, there are external geometry references in that component.

Problem is, that I cant even make original part anymore nor I can export it without error. I am following the same steps as in original parts timeline, using same sketches and features, but offset faces just doesn't work anymore. Current component doesn't have any external geometry references.

very helpful, thanks. I see what you are talking about (sorry, Monday morning fog is my only excuse). Yes, you are correct, it looks like the Offset does behave differently. Will have to investigate further.

well, this was... interesting. It turns out that Offset Faces works differently when the face is in a child component than when it is in the root. Without going into too many details, it has to do with the chamfer applied to the top of the cylinder. Very strange. I created FUS-86685 for this bug. Here is the distilled version:

Hello.

When exporting "Leg" component the issue still persists. I have attached a file. January 2022 update did not fixed it.

Perhaps I am missing something, but I do not see the original problem in the model shared. I see the same behavior when editing the Offset Faces feature of the "Leg" component inside the Cap_Bottom design as I do if I export the Leg component and edit it in a separate tab:

My initial problem was that after exporting the "Leg" component you get different model and error in the timeline. In your recorded video, you can clearly see the blue "Leg" differs from the exported red "Leg" and that there is an error in the timeline.

Second thing is the way "Offset Faces" work. You recorded a video back in ‎07-12-2021 at 04:28 PM. There are blue and red "Legs" and "Offset Faces" feature works differently for both of them. Back in the days, the "Offset Faces" feature was working the same as you showed with the red "Leg" component, not with the blue "Leg". If you think about it, only thing that should move is the face you select like with the red "Leg" example, not the entire body like the blue "Leg".

With the January update, you made "Offset Faces" for red "Leg" work the same as for the blue "Leg" which I think is incorrect, because this is not what it used to be before. With that said, now there no way I can recreate the original "Leg" due to "Offset faces" work differently now and I can't get the cut in the middle I need (Offset Faces Cut.png)

Hello,

Is there any updates on this problem because it still exists? Is there a workaround because I cannot recreate the model it used to be? With the recent changes, how can I make "Leg1.png" look like "Leg2.png"? I understand that you make a sketch on the front plane and use "Revolve", but it makes the sketch unnecessarily complicated with less features.
