That creates an inherently unstable model in any CAD application Iv'e worked with in three decades of professional CAD work (i'ts been a few).

Updates sometimes change the data structure of models when they are opened the first time after an update.

When that data is already corrupt as in your model, the update process cannot do its job and the model might behave unusual.

But the problem is not the update, it is the model.

Hi all,

For the past year I've been modelling our soon to be forever home in Fusion 360. Whether this is the right tool to do that, it's not my point. Up until now I've been able to work on it flawlessly, rendering impressively close images of what the house (under construction) is starting to look like.

I've added a few pictures to try to explain what happened, but I'm at a complete loss as to why this has happened. Reverting to previous versions has the exact same issue - some components are misplaced, others completely missing - they're still part of the project, just not included here.

Can someone help me understand what's going on?

RenderConstructionCurrent state of model

The logs unlikely provide a lot useful information in this case. Having the model and timeline to analyze how it was constructed would probably much more helpful. Can you share the model ?

Also, there are always folks that will tell you that Fusion 360 isn't the right tool for this, but I have to disagree.

If you are trying to win the next Evermotion Archviz competition, yes, then you might want to use something else, r at least for the rendering portion.

However, if you use this to provide quick visualization for yourself, friend and family or for the architect or construction crew/company , having a builtin render engine that is ready to go at the click of a button is unbeatable!

Did you use the canvas, or local render or the could render ?

I do vaguely remember reports here on the forum that reported some different behaviors between the two.

Hey! Thank you for the response and positive words.

To answer your question: this is not even using the renderer, is just whenever I open the project, it appears broken; I've never had any issue with discrepancies between local/cloud/canvas rendering at all.

I'll try to see how to share the model - https://a360.co/3ixI4wy is this it?

This will take some time to analyze. I am on my companies WiFi network and it took a while to download and upload it to Fusion 360

However, what I can already say is that you are not using Fusion 360 correctly.

Your project works almost exclusively with bodies instead of being organized into components, subcomponents. etc.

You are also use the move tool and the capture position tool way too often.

However, I believe nothing is per-se "lost". Let me take a closer look one the weekend and see what can be done to organize this better and make it more stable.

I'm still not able to trace back to any version that opens correctly, must have been some Fusion 360 update.

There are a good number of yellow icons in the timeline and those indicate warnings where something has gone wrong. I suspect that this is the reason for the behavior you are seeing but I will need to take closer look.

I, also, have been modeling our house as a "for fun" project. Yes, it probably would have been easier in Revit, but Fusion is my baby, so I wanted to see if I could do it...

I looked at this in more detail and would suggest before you continue to work on the design to go through one of the tutorial courses that can be found following in the spec paced learning menu selection in this menu:

You have somewhere between 60-80 yellow and a couple of red icons in your timeline. Yellow icons indicate warnings, so you've ignored at least that many warning messages.

Then the way you are modeling indicates that you have quite some caching up to do on how to model with a history based parametric modeling software. You have hundreds(?) of extrude features of which 95% are unnecessary if you would utilize sketches and the timeline features properly. There are hundreds of position capture features.

If this would be designed from scratch the timeline would be 10 or even 20 times shorter.

Not sure what to recommend on how to proceed, but the above descriptions are the reason your design behaves a little erratically.

Well, if its not the update than what exactly? Components dont disappear next time your open your project this is not how fusion usually works IMHO.

Are you really trying to convince people that they are ignorant now? wow this is just wow and lol. You are basically saying its the end user`s fault that AD cannot keep their software consistent and reliable. Thats the worst try at damage control. Sorry.

I’m not trying to stir anything up, everyone.

I, for one, admit my model may not have been built using the correct techniques (although I have never seen the 50+ warnings @TrippyLighting mentiones), but it does seem strange that whole components disappear from a model from a day to another.

If this is happening to other users, might be worth investigating to see if it’s a wider issue, that’s all I’m saying. Heck, this is just a fun project I’ve been doing, I can redo it from scratch if needed.

You vented frustration over "something" that happened to another users model but ignored what I wrote. Twice!

If you take some time to evaluate the model the OP has posted it isn't hard to see, at least for me, why there are liked components missing.

If you run a Modify->Compute all it will present all the warnings in visible in the screenshot I posted.

No problem, I did not thing that was your intention.

Before you start this from scratch, let me ask you f you are happy with the geometry you have so far in the main model _Casa.f3d ?

Your modeling style is very similar to direct modeling. You created a base sketch and created geometry from the sketch, but after that you never adjusted the sketch and modeled the extrude or push/pull tool.

You could consider turning-off/deleting the timeline. That would conserve all the modeling work you've done so far, but geometry and sketches would not be linked anymore.
