Problem with files bigger than 100 Mb

Hello Everybody,

I have a problem with designs bigger than 100 MB (slowdown, 2D drawing issues etc.). My computer covers all system requirements.
So, should I upgrade the computer or Fusion 360 is not the proper software for my purpose?

Hi,

1. one cause of such slowdown are complex sketches which are additionally also not fully constrained.
2. when editing such sketches, you should disable the "Show Profile" option in the Sketch palette.

I think we need a lot more information about those designs. The pure file size is not necessarily indicative of how complex a design might be.

Can you share such a design, at least some screenshots of the viewport, the timeline etc.?

From the screenshot you can not get any knowledge.

An insight into the structure (browser and timeline) is required for an analysis.

Please share the file.

File > export > save as f3d on local drive > attach it to the next post

Yep, I agree with @g-andresen that more information is needed.

You can embed images directly in the post by dragging them from the desktop into the post (macOS) or copy-pasting screenshots from the clipboard (Win10). You can also use the big camera button in the menu above the post editing field.

1. Was this completely designed in Fusion 360 with the timeline enabled, so it includes all sketches, construction geometry, joints etc, or was this imported from a STEP or other CAD file ?

2. If it was designed in Fusion 360, does it include any linked and/or derived components/component groups (assemblies)?

3. How many components/parrs are in this design? (My guess is 1000-1500)?

Thank you very much for your time!
On your questions:
1. Was this completely designed in Fusion 360 with the timeline enabled, so it includes all sketches, construction geometry, joints etc, or was this imported from a STEP or other CAD file? - It is not fully designed in Fusion. We are importing standard machines from manufacturers sites (usually STEP) and add our parts, connections etc.
2. If it was designed in Fusion 360, does it include any linked and/or derived components/component groups (assemblies)? It is not 100% designed in Fusion, but yes.
3. How many components/parrs are in this design? (My guess is 1000-1500)? - I am not sure how can I count the number of the components, but I would say 2000 (based on the PO data).
Regarding screenshots - please, find them below. The project I am currently working on. It is still running, but I have to add two conveyors. Afterwards, it will slow down. Here all components are imported. I am creating the joints, verifying the positions and check for collisions.

Yes. You are right. It was a moment stage. I fixed joints. Please, see the screenshot below.

But adding two more solder irons have decreased the speed significantly.

@vgeorgievK7586 - If you are able to share the design, it will be easier to give advice. But, a few things you might look at: Do the machines have more detail than you need (every fastener, with modeled threads, internal details of gearing, etc)? I find that you need to understand your goals with every model. If you are designing the machines themselves, down to that level of detail, then perhaps such detail is needed. But, if, instead, you are, say, designing a station where some machines are being installed, then, perhaps a simplified representation of a machine would suffice.

Also, it would be good to know, for this design, exactly what operations are too slow. You mention 2D drawings, but what other operations are you struggling with? Adding new joints? Adding components? Sketching? Solid modeling? Editing a feature and recomputing?

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your feedback and the solution proposed!
Simplification of the models up to the minimum for the purpose sounds like a possible course of action.
I am using the full designs, which is for sure not necessary. I will go for your proposal.

On your question about issues faced:
- The biggest problem is 2D drawings and especially dimensioning.
- In 3D modelling, the issue is handling several details at once. Even simple actions as show/hide undertake an amount of time.

I would like to come back and focus on what the actual purpose is. Can you elaborate on that ?

My professional background is manufacturing automation and I have worked most of my 30 year career in that industry in a multitude of companies and position's. I knew precisely what I was looking at when you posted the screenshot.

For example, is designing, building, installing and commissioning custom automated machinery the main purpose of the business ?

Hi Peter,

You are right. That is our core business.
Regarding purpose, I am using Fusion in two main directions:
- To create and visualize the concepts for the customers. Here Fusion works perfectly, user-friendly software with great functionality.
- To combine the parts coming from different designers and to verify functionality. And here start the problems for which I have contacted the forum.
Concerning your experience, I would highly appreciate your opinion.
