@Anonymous - thanks for the explanation, it makes sense. Also, this is a direct modeling design, so the compute speed doesn't factor in. What I found with these particular edges was that with chaining on, the fillet will fail:

but, if I turn off chaining, these two, at least, work:

There must be a couple tiny edges in there that make the fillet fail.

I am currently working on smoothing the edges of a piece of wicker furniture. I was sent the .x_t by a client and have been going through and applying a 0.0005m fillet to each of the sharp edges. While almost every other edge applied this fillet with no issue, a couple of the edges refuse to take the fillet regardless of what I try. These edges should be identical geometry to the rest of the edges so I am confused as to why they are behaving differently.

If anyone has any potential solutions to try please let me know

Please attach your model. If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section of a forum post to attach it.

"These edges should be identical geometry to the rest of the edges"

Do you know that they are identical geometry? (meaning that they are copied bodies, for instance) Or, are they just visually similar? Without the model, (as @jhackney1972 requested), one thing to check is whether the edges are really tangent. "near tangent" edges can cause fillets to fail.

But, I feel like I need to ask why you need to apply these fillets. A 0.5mm fillet is pretty small, and it looks like there are a lot of these edges here. It will be pretty expensive to do all these fillets, and recompute them if anything changes upstream. Don't mean to question your design here, but just wonder what you need them for. Visual? Manufacturing?

No I cannot confirm that they are identical geometry, because I was just sent the .x_t file and cannot see any of the steps as to how it was constructed.

As to why I am trying to add the fillets, it's purely visual. I work in graphic design and the client that provided this file complained that the edges of the wicker looked too sharp in the renderings. I am attempting to remedy this issue by adding these fillets to the edges, while they are relatively small the effect is definitely noticeable in the final product.

Maybe the fillets are just working as intended for you, but if you go to the edge view between the "bottom" and "front" on the view cube, there is one edge in the very center that I cannot fillet and another 3 from the bottom.

Let me know if you find any problems with these edges

and, sure enough, if you zoom in close, you can see that the short edge is highlighted to show the error:

since these are for visual reasons, it's probably OK to omit these small edges

Thank you very much, this helped me get 3 more of the edges filleted, I still have a few more that are being tricky despite having tangent chain off but I'm gonna toy with them for a little longer to see if I can apply the fillet
