Stl to Brep

Hey guys,

i can't select the mesh when i try to convert it to brep.
What am i doing wrong?

Hmmm... I can select the mesh just fine after selecting the "Mesh" tab and then selecting "Modify->Convert mesh" from the tool bar.

I wonder if that is really a good idea, however. This is a pretty dense mesh with over 10k triangles and editing it will be hit or miss.

That really depends on what you want to do with the model.

I'd have to look at your design again, but it would seem to me that the main model without the logo can be re-designed with the native tools in Fusion 360 in less than 30 minutes. That will make future edits way faster than trying to work with a highly faceted model.

I'd say the first thing you should try is to import the piece at the right scale. Right ow this would only fit around a frighteningly massive wrist 😉

I got to be honest with you here. Did do it in Fusion, but still can't figure out how to bend things. So i had some one bend it for me and insert the logo. Can anyone tech me to bend mental.
(Don't try to bend the spooon....)

This is pretty basic in geometry.

Outside Radius = Inside Radius + Thickness

So if your Inside Radius = 0.5 and your Thickness = 1, then your Outside Radius = 1.5, not 1.0

Also, you are actually posting your questions in the wrong area of the forum - this area is to report bugs in the software. You should be posting >>over here<<.

I had time to look at @TrippyLighting example.

You should note that the two examples are very very similar.

Having looked at Peter's example if I were modeling this again I would use elements of his technique and elements of my technique. I think you want this in both folded form and as Flat Pattern, so make sure that it will return a Flat Pattern.

Try to reproduce using both examples.

Do you see any way to combine the two techniques with improvements to a final technique?

I recommend that you learn to read the Timeline.

This effort will pay dividends in analyzing and editing your own designs too!

No, not at this time.

Perhaps, as so many users you underestimated the complexity of a CAD tool and did not consult any educational materials, before using it. Before continuing you should complete one of the courses offered here.

Once you've done that you are equipped to go through the timeline and try to understand how this comes together.

You might still have questions, but you'll be better equipped to ask questions.

You are right, i am not. I have tried to look for courses here in Denmark without any luck.
I have watched a lot of Lars's videos 🙂
I do know how to go through the timeline though but i cant see where you click.
That's why i asked for screen capture.

I am going to try to bend metal following your steps.

Send the Timeline back to the beginning.

Now Play it forward one step at a time (return one step at a time if needed).

Reproduce each sketch and each feature one-by-one in an new file.

If you run into trouble on any step - stop and ask questions about how the step was done.

(This is how I learned multiple parametric MCAD softwares.)

OK, let's see if you can create this first sketch exactly as @TrippyLighting did it.

I see! Your English seems fine so I assumed that would not be a problem.

Rather than just seeing me click, let me explain that steps you see in the timeline of my design.

I would also encourage you to look at the design @TheCADWhisperer provided.

My 1st sketch provided the base geometry, the internal profile and the opening for the bracelet.

A main part of being able to use a sketch as base geometry for a sheet metal part is that it must have a short section of straight line in it. That later serves as the flat, stationary piece that the curved section is unfolded from.

In order to do that with this sketch I would have to trim out the bottom of the ellipse. If I do so the ellipse looses it becomes unconstrained. Rather than trying to get that to work, I extruded a surface from this sketch and trimmed away from the surface what I did not need.

Then I projected that into a sketch and added a little straight line segment as described earlier:

I then defined a sheet metal rule (Sheet Metal->Modify->Sheet Metal Rules):

And created a sheet metal flange from the sketch using that rule:

Then I Unfolded it (Modify->Unfold) and modeled the pattern and re-folded it.

I deleted the unneeded straight section (make sure to select the surface tab), patched and stitched the opening to get a solid body.

Then some filleting and you're done.

@TheCADWhisperer's model uses similar techniques.

Yes, that is one thing I would do differently with my example.
