Can the resolution be controlled on an object by object basis or is this a global setting ?

Hi Everyone

I know this has been brought up a couple of times before but I can't see any solutions in previous posts.

I'm trying to export to FBX and as many people before me have experienced when I open the FBX file it doesn't contain anything.

Is there any know fix to this problem?

Thanks in advance

Nathan

Hey Nathan,

I've never experienced this problem but I can suggest you a different workflow maybe,

I'm assuming you're using the .fbx file with 3Ds max, Maya or similar programs.

If you export your model as .step you can easily import it to 3Ds Max. There is no difference since both methods triangulate your model when you open import it.

Actually, exporting as .step file has some advantages too, it's a bit faster to export your model since it's directly computing with your computer. If you export your model as .fbx it'll be computing in the cloud and can take longer according to your internet connection.

Also, when you import your .step file to 3Ds Max, you can decide the polygon count as the picture below:

I mean the "Mesh Resolution" Slider

And I exported the same file from Fusion 360 as .fbx and .step, you can see there is no difference when you open with 3Ds Max:

It's a global setting, but if you want to change this setting by an object, you can set the "Change Convert to Mesh" option as off.

3Ds Max import every single part as "Body Object" then you can change the Mesh Quality under Viewport Display Settings after clicking any object and enjoy! 🙂

Thanks for the replies.

I create my models in fusion 360 then send the models to someone I use for rendering. They request a .FBX file.

I downloaded the Autodesk FBX converter and use it to convert a .obj file to .FBX

Slightly frustrating that a middle step is required.

I have successfully exported .FBX form fusion 360 in the past so it must be something to do with this particular file.

Thanks again
