Ahhh ok...Now I understand....that seems like a really weird design choice by Autodesk tbh....Its not the most user friendly approach, particularly when its not uncommon (from friends workplace experience) for last minute changes to be demanded. It also goes against logic to a degree, create a hole, then thread it...why have the thread option if it can't take notes from it?

Thanks...I was getting close to metaphorically tearing my hair out....

So on a part I'm designing for a home project, I create a hole of 8.5mm diameter 45mm long, I then create an M10 thread within that hole 11mm long, this 3d prints without issue when exported. However when I create a drawing from this model and use the hole and thread notes, no matter the view angle, instead of M10x1.5 11mm I get 8.5 x 45 and 10.5 x 90 degrees

I've redone the hole and thread modelling in case I've made a mistake, recreated the drawing and it still does it.

Can someone please explain where I'm going wrong on this...already had to apologise to someone I sent the drawing to as I didn't notice this issue at first.

Frustrated does not cover this....

Please attach your model, not the 2D drawing, that is showing this issue so the Forum users can take a look at it. If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section of a forum post to attach it.

You only get callouts if you use the hole tool to create the hole and thread in one feature. It will not work if you add a thread to an existing hole using a thread feature.

Edit. You need to create all the features in one hole feature like this.

I think it's the way it is at the moment because it's easy and was quick to implement, just read the info from the hole feature. Gets a bit more complicated if you have to read holes created from extrudes, revolves and maybe a chamfer then a thread. Hopefully they'll improve the way it works, you can't even use a callout for male threads at the moment.

@johnphillip wrote:

Don't forget you can just right click a hole on the model and select modify feature to add threads or make other changes, probably quicker than adding threads later.

I know its relatively new software but thats pretty glaring if it can't manage automatic notes for male threads, seems like whoever coded this cut some serious corners, the fact you create a thread should be referenced in the parameters and the drawing should just read the parameters accordingly.

Seems like "Agile" software development strikes again.........whatever happened to testing before release I wonder? My college lecturer would have chewed me out on stuff like this....particularly in regards to failure to collect user requirements, failure to properly test etc...

Hi @johnphillip

I thought I'd reply to your message, regarding the hole & thread notes tool. Wherever possible, I like to be open about what we're working on and what's next with regard to drawings tools.

In October 2020 we launched the 1st iteration of thread notes, this is what is currently in the product. The 1st iteration recognises hole features and creates annotations from the information in the model, formatted to either the ISO or ASME standard.

Our public roadmap shows our 2nd iteration, a project called "Improve Hole & thread Notes (Include external Threads)" - Under "Annotations".

This 2nd iteration, is currently in progress. Once we complete the 2nd iteration of this project, the tool will have expanded capabilities which will include the ability to annotate threads added to circular (no hole) extrudes, as well as external threads. Keep an eye on the roadmap and the What’s new blog posts.

When building new tools, we often take an evolutionary approach, which allows us to give users access to key functionality sooner, while we build the next phase(s). This Agile approach allows us to gather additional user feedback between iterations, allowing for continual improvement. A recent example of this approach, is the work we did with Break/Broken views.

I hope this helps to answer some of your concerns, but if you have any questions about 2D drawings development priorities, please feel free to contact me directly Clint. Brown {a} Autodesk.com

Hi Clint

I wanted to express my gratitude for your input; however, I must convey that the feature in question has not yet evolved to meet the specified requirements.

Additionally, I've observed a consistent pattern in how QoS conflicts are handled. It appears that, when Autodesk encounters challenges without immediate solutions, the default response is to attribute the issues to hardware rather than engaging in a thorough investigation to identify and address the root cause. This approach, unfortunately, results in a lack of substantial support and resolution.

As an example, I currently have an open ticket that has been unresolved for over two months. In order to continue my work, I felt compelled to invest £5k in a new laptop as a precautionary measure. It's disheartening that such measures were necessary to maintain productivity.

I believe a more proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving would greatly benefit both parties involved. I appreciate your understanding and am open to discussing this matter further.

Best regards,
Will Moore
