Unable to insert flat pattern using base view in drawing

Created a drawing using a template which creates views for various components including sheet metal components. Using this template it will allow me to have various views of specific component and a flat pattern for forming details. After creating a drawing and detailing various components (29 sheets total) I realized I was missing a component. So I went back to the model added the part I required, created a flat pattern in the model space. Back in the drawing space I inserted the base views for the new component but when I go to insert the flat pattern it always comes up blank (just a red bounding box). No flat pattern. If I create a new drawing using the template just for the specific part I get the flat pattern. But I don't want it to be on a separate drawing from the other parts.

will you be able to share screencast for workflow which you are doing?

Cause as you mentioned, adding flat pattern on existing drawing (Created from template) is working from our side.

I have attached the .F3Z file. It is item #52 on the last page 30/30. It is more than likely some that I am doing wrong.

The part was created in the model after the drawing files was created using a template.

To add the various views I clicked on base view --> in the drawing view pop I select reference --> scroll down and select the base view of the specific component to add it to the sheet.

I use the same process to add the flat pattern but the labels for the new part are not helpful.

Hi @jjordan

The drawing is looking for a flat pattern of the top level assembly. It's possible that this existed at one point, and now no longer does. If you delete the reference in the drawing browser, the red squares will disappear. You can place the flat pattern of that component, as @g-andresen has shown.

Guenthers screencast above solves my problem. The process I used to add the flat pattern to the drawing was incorrect and was referencing the wrong part. Your help was greatly appreciated for this 'newbie' mistake.

I too am trying to create drawings for flat patterns, but the base view will not place on the drawing and if I click OK I get a red box on the drawing. I have created flat pattern drawings for some other components without problem but now I have one that is not cooperating. I have seen this before in other designs, but now I need to resolve it.

I have tried the steps shown below for this message but that did not work. Any suggestions? See screencast.
