I need to add this star detail to the front of a helmet design. The body of the helmet is a Quadball, which makes this difficult. I can't use emboss because the surface is a compound curve. I also can't use tricks like lofting the design through nested spheres because Fusion won't let me create an offset surface from the front and sides of the helmet. Too much distortion of the geometry.

I'm currently extruding the star from the helmet using the Start->Object option. That works for the front of the helmet, but it distorts the star towards the top and sides. The star gets thinner as the further from the front and the edges flare out and create undercuts. Is there a better way to do this?

Design attached.

you could try the "split faces and offset" approach. Sorry, I did not see your model at first, so I just did it on a simple design. FWIW, we are now currently working on making Emboss work on more complex surfaces. It's not available yet, unfortunately.
