The break command to break up lines and the intersection of lines with other sketch geometries does not work in my fusion 360 product. For example, when I sketch a circle and then draw a line across the circle, the break command does not activate when I select any or all of the geometries. I have checked support and forums on this, but this appears to be aberrant behavior in the program. Is there some general setting that I need to enable to allow the break command to operate? Please Help. I have attached a file that exhibits this unexpected behavior. Russell Gache

Saw it! I know, it looks so easy, but my version does not do that. It like its turned off or something. -no red x's, no selection of portion. Thanks for replying. I guess my version is broken is broken. Uninstall and re-install? Is there any global settings or anything that you can think of? Very frustrating. I love/hate F360. R

Crap, maybe. I oriented the sketch along the z plane because I wanted to 3d print it using z as the height. But, as long as everything is in the same plane, why would that matter? I will try using x/y plane and see if that makes any difference.

It has nothing to do with the version. That command has not changed in years. Please share the model here. We can't really help without seeing your model. As, @TheCADWhisperer said, it could be the geometry is not on the sketch plane (3D sketch), in which case Break will not work, or if the circle and the line are in different sketches. But, without the model it's just speculation.

it should not matter what plane you picked for the sketch - XY, YZ, XZ, a model face, all will work, What won't work is if you enabled 3D sketch, and sketched away from the plane you picked to create the sketch.

Thanks. This is what I was referring to above. You have 6 different sketches in this model. Some are empty, some have just one curve. But, looking at the circle/line example, the circle and the line are in different sketches. When you want to add geometry to a sketch, use Edit Sketch, don't create a new sketch.

Screencast coming whenever Screencast decides to wake up again...

Yes, thank you--all. The confusion is that I assumed that I could finish a sketch as as long as they are on the same plane I could trim them and break them up. But, you can only do that for a single sketch and only when you are either still in the sketch creating it or if you go back and then edit the sketch. Total newbee confusion, but yet one of those basic things that no one mentions in the learning videos. Thanks to all and I hope this helps someone else! -R
