hello - in the attached design I have assembled the engine by importing a number of seperate design comonents into one design called assembly. However, I now want to carry on working on this assembly. Specifically I want to introduce a number of holes to add pipework post printing. But the assembly is locked and I can extrude "cut" or make a "hole".

Is there any way at all to turn this assembly back to a body or component?

Many thanks in advance.

You can go back to the data panel, open and modify the individual components, save them and then update the assembly. You can also add new components to the assembly in the assembly file.
