This is normal behavior in all CAD packages. You need to always get into the habit of measuring from at least one face or plane, preferably the first pick, to make the measure square to the face and edge.

I got a strange result in Inspect>Measure. To put it in context, the thickness at 1 is 15/32". The gap between 1 and 2 should be in the realm of 1/2". It certainly isn't 2 1/16".

You are selecting two edges. Since we cannot see the context of the two edges, they could be 2 1/16" apart on different planes. Try measuring Plane to Plane or at least Plane to edge. Please Attach your model so we can further take a look.

You are correct. Edge (1) to face (2) came up with 1/2". That said, I suggest that measuring should take the view into account. In top view, as in this case, the measured distance should infer that the user wants the distance in the view plane as the default.

Guess I'll add it to the list of unusual behaviors.

Or you could use selection techniques to allow Fusion to do that.

Selecting the end points of those 2 lines will deliver a 3d coordinate result.

Might help....
