OK, now that I actually read the original post, I can reproduce it, as well. I created FUS-98941 for this issue.

Errors and crashes using rectangular pattern on a surface.

To replicate :-

sketch circle and extrude a surface cylinder.

on a tangent plane sketch and extrude a hole through the side of the cylinder.

Use rectangular pattern, -> feature. Pick the extrude for the hole, then choose an origin axis for direction. Tool stops working correctly.

If you then fill in the rest of the pattern dialogue and ok it. nothing happens, but editing the pattern crashes fusion.

There is a work around by choosing to pattern a body, then changing to feature after everything is entered into the dialogue.

I was not completely sure what workflow you were describing, so I had to guess. I made a surface extrude, then a solid extrude to do the hole. I was able to pattern that solid cut OK. If this is not what you were doing, please show a screencast or share the model up to the pattern point.

A circular pattern works 😉

ah, OK, my apologies. A problem with reading comprehension... I just assumed that this was a circular pattern. Will investigate with rectangular pattern...
