Hello,

I am getting back into 3d printing and I have this weird issue where if I export a body to an STL file, the mesh looks like the model is complete but when sliced in cura, the model is missing a face.

I made a simple test model in Fusion 360, a 30mm x 30mm x 6mm rectangle and I inspected the mesh :

 Which seems fine to me.

However, when I slice the exported stl of the body above in Cura, it's missing the top surface, creating a hollow box.

I am not sure if Fusion or Cura is the problem here, but in the past, when I used fusion 360 to create models, I never had this issue.

To export the STL, I use the save as mesh... menu. I tried different settings for the quality of the export but it didnt make a difference.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks

How does it look like when you open it back in Fusion, or in 3D Viewer if you are on Windows 10?

Hi @jeph.gagnon,

Looks like you are viewing the file in Layers.

Can you crag the slider and see if the layer is filling the material, from the image i can't say if its hallow.

I tried in Cura and worked fine for me (See attachment)

Is the box solid directly after import in cura before you do the slicing? If so, then it is probably a slice setting issue in cura. Have you checked the top layers setting?

When importing the model in Fusion360, or opening in 3D paint, I see the full model without any gaps and all the surfaces. That tells me that the model is correctly exported and something is going on with the cura slicer.

Thanks for the help.

@dsouzasujay
The model isn't filling completely. I am at the last layer and the inside isn't filling with the infill. What you see in my original pictures is a hollow 3d print. I reimported the STL file in Fusion360 and I checked with 3D Paint in windows 10, and in both cases, the model is complete.

@markus.fruehauf
When importing the model in cura, yes I see it as a full model.

When I slice it though, it's not working properly. I sliced other models before (that I didn't make) and they sliced properly.

I fiddled again with my original model, and the issue seems to come from cura and not Fusion360. If I slice my model on the otherside, the top surface is still missing.

To me it really seems like the issue is coming from cura for whatever reason as at the minimum, the 30x30x6 mm rectangle should have no issue generating correctly.

I am not sure what I will look for in Cura, but thanks for the help everyone.

Thanks

edit : I attached my model(HDMI_Draft1.f3d) , so if any of you want to try it and see if you have the same result or something different. For whatever reason, I can't attach STL file

Hello again,

the issue was on cura's side. I activated spiralization on my last print and forgot to turn it off again, thus creating the weird print layers.

After removing the option, the model was properly sliced.

Thanks for the help, and sorry for the lost time.
