I am having hard times constraining ellipses and sometimes circles.

In order to constrain an elipse, center must be on a fixed point, the angle and two dimensions length and width must be entered. I had observed two different problems.

1- After entering the first dimension, if the curser is on a snap point like 0 or 90 it should be recording it once clicking. Then you enter the second dimension and this should be sufficient. What i realized that the angle sometimes does registered and elipse stays blue. Also sometimes it insist not to snap to 0 and instead displays 0.1. If I enter 0 enter the "draw elipse " function gets cancelled. If I click as normal after entering 0 it should be registered but sometimes it does not.

If i realize this is the issue moving/rotating the elipse, drawing a dimensioned line from the central point towards with the angle the elipse suppose to be then putting a colinear constraint on the line and the axis puts the elipse to where it should be and fully constrains it.

2- I am relatively new to Fusion. Although I try to define all the dimensions and formulas i will use in parameters before starting a project, I still heavy rely on construction lines. As i use them for precision they are fully defined. Whenever i try to start drawing an elipse from one of points of construction lines, Elipse ends up unconstrained. If i all the turn all of them to normal lines the elipse becomes constrained.

In either way, the problems (and the solutions) are awkward. I had to redraw hundreds of ellipses tonight. As i am new am i missing something. This can not be normal.

Hi,

I often prefer to create ellipses (and other elements) outside of their final position with multiple degrees of freedom, then resize them and finally dock and align them to existing elements.

Thanks for the reply and the video.

As I understood you too have hard times with elipse when you try to draw it in its final position. I think being a windows user for almost 30 years, I got used to "drag and drop" style drawings and now this new drawing algorithm requires a different mindset.

Though even I create a fully constrained elipse out side like this, it sometimes became unconstrained when i move it to it final position. Rectangles do no cause any problems but ellipses and sometimes circles act iffy if anything in sketch is unsconstrained. I hope i will learn and get used to it soon.

1. The procedure shown in the screencast is not limited to ellipses, but makes it easier to determine sketches in some situations.
2. It is common practice in the forum to mark posts as “accepted solution” if they contain hints for the solution.
This should make it easier for later readers to find their way around.
It would be nice if you could change the marking.
