There is a new Mac trackpad experience available in the Fusion Insider build that was just released.

What is Fusion Insider?

As a Fusion 360 Insider, you will have early access to next production version of Fusion 360, several weeks before it is released to the general public. Along with getting early access, you will also be able to:

To use the new trackpad experience:

1. Open preferences

2. Preview Features

3. Search for Native Trackpad

4. Enable it

5. DO NOT use the automatic re-start prompt. Just close preferences without restarting.

6. Wait 30 seconds, manually restart Fusion by closing and opening it again.

7. Check preferences to ensure Native Trackpad is now enabled.

I spent a light day with it. Nothing super intense, as I don't want to make a bunch of work I can't open with the stock version just yet. That said, so far so good! Seems like it just works.

Trying this now on M1 Air. Hopefully it will eliminate the problem with rotate disappearing.

The first thing I notice is that 2-finger scrolling in the model view is extremely slow.

Yes, the orbit performance has been noticed and addressed. We'll be adding improvements going forward. That's exactly why this is a preview feature, for you to try and give us feedback like this.

Been testing the native drivers since this rolled out last week.

Pro: Unlike before, the native drivers don't crash every time the screen sleeps!

Con: Not quite as smooth as the previous drivers. Overall not too bad, but have noticed the 2-finger pinch-to-zoom in particular is not very responsive compared to before.

Overall really happy to see this though, and excited to see the motions get dialed in.

Ya plus rotating the view just feels weird as Dan Berman mentioned on the March product update page.

I'll be sticking to restarting Fusion 8 times a day instead of using the native drivers. Really really hoping this fix gets fixed before we're forced into using something else that's broken.

"A new Mac trackpad experience?" Could you perhaps be a bit more specific, @Phil.E, as to what this potential update does?

I'm interested and happy to give feedback. But I use both a Mac trackpad and a SpaceMouse. I'm getting the impression that the update involves activities that I'm probably using the SpaceMouse for rather than the trackpad.

I'm very happy that the team is working on this. I used the preview method for a few days and didn't have a loss of rotation. I have gone back to the old NativeTrackpad addon, which still works with some fiddling about with permissions. It would be great if the new built-in native support did two-finger model panning with momentum like the old addon.

YES! Enabling *right now*!

EDIT: Well… I see the preview feature, I check it, and restart, but I can't tell if it's enabled because the checkbox isn't "sticky" and doesn't stay checked after restart. So I can't tell if I'm using the preview feature or not.

I just submitted my 'Insider' application, so maybe that has to be enabled first before I can enable the feature, even if I can see it.

KEY STEPS:

Open preferences, enable preview feature "Native Trackpad"
Close preferences, but do not automatically restart Fusion when prompted.
Wait 30 seconds
Manually restart Fusion
Check preferences to ensure it "sticks".

1: So when using the trackpad to rotate it takes just over twice as many 2 finger swipes to rotate the same distance.

With the OG rotate drivers it takes a single two finger swipe from the bottom of my trackpad to the top to rotate a model 360 degrees.

With the new rotate drivers it takes just over two separate full top to bottom swipes to rotate the same model 360 degrees.

Please note that I'm swiping my fingers at about the same speed.

2: Also within a single minute of using the native drivers I've noticed multiple times now that the rotation will randomly stop rotating despite me being in the middle of swiping my fingers on the trackpad.

M1 Max Macbook.

Am I to expect these behaviors to be fixed before being taken out of preview or should I expect Autodesk to release this broken right out of the gate?
