Thanks for posting what you wanted now I understand where you were going with the job.

Off the top of my head the cylinder OD is round (I hope). Could you use the center then expand a circle from it until you saw an Intersect Fit Yellow appear, which would be the smallest diameter, less the cylinder diameter. Not exactly hi-tech but it may work.

There are an infinite number of distances between those faces.

Exactly what points on the faces do you want?

Is there a logical reason that Capture Design History is not turned on?

1st of all i'am not an expert - but;

Assuming you wanted something like the distance from the cylinder OD to the face of the inner curvature I would probably rotate the the item (looking down on it, maybe Z on your video) and measure across, or one could start a Drawing and measure there as well. This may be too simple but wouldn't math compute what radius distance your are after?

Perhaps a construction line and measuring on it, but I would have to experiment with it as it just came to mind and may or may not help, or even work.

Assuming I did not misunderstand the original question, which now I am questioning, I made the below illustration. Mostly to see if it would work and perhaps get your feedback where I may be in error.

1) Made cylinder 40mm in center, then outside frame 80mm.
2) Made 2 tangent construction lines, any angle from edges
3) Set lines to parallel
4) Measured between them.
5) New issue - why didn’t it come up with 20mm?
But when I “Measure” from circle to circle I get 20mm.
6) I would welcome your thought on why it didn’t measure 20!

As the “Inspect + Measure” seems to work fine I figure I am not understanding the original problem, or ??

Thanks,
Tom Herd

I want to measure the minimum distance. I'm trying to use the largest diameter end mill I can to mill that area out.

I realized later that those faces are not concentric with the center of the red pin but having the ability to find the minimum distance between faces in that manner would definitely save me some time.

Design history slows my computer down a bit. Not that big of a deal. But it also takes up more screen real estate than I'm comfortable with. Design history is an option. An option I choose not to use.

Hi! I believe the two measurements shown by the Measure tool can be explained as such. The one on the right is "center-to-center", basically the distance between the two center points.

The one on the left is the minimum distance but it is based on two full cylinders. It is why the dimension arrow seems to point to somewhere without geometry. If you extend the trimmed cylindrical face, you will see that is where the measurement is taken. Regardless, the result is indeed a bit confusing.

Many thanks!
