topic What Are Axis Used for In Fusion360? in Fusion Support Forum

Hi, I'm new to Fusion360 and learned CAD on Solidworks. In Solidworks it is possible to mate a cylinder axis to a created reference axis, or really just any axis to any other axis. I have searched the internet and have found many posts and videos about how to CREATE axis in Fusion360 but I have not found any posts about what to do with them after they are created. Why are there so many ways to create axis if you cant select them when creating joints or planes? What is their purpose? Are they just for visualization?

These questions popped up while assembling a model where I needed to mount a rod between two angled pieces of metal to make it look like this /-\. I was easily able to create the horizontal axis between the two angled pieces, but have not found a way to joint the cylinder to the horizontal axis as I would have been able to do in Solidworks.

My question was more general but here is the model I was referring to.

Hi,

Because your holes did not have the same positions on the angled profiles, I removed them and made new holes.
Then I positioned the rod with a rigid joint as shown in the previous screencast.

Screencast

günther

The Axis in Fusion 360 cannot be used for assemblies AFAIK. Their use is to create construction geometry. You can for create a plane at angle on them, for example. Or you can project their intersection point with a sketch plane into that sketch.
