Is there anything in the pipeline for some mesh to surface tools? I love Fusion, but its not overly helpful for reverse engineering scan data (depending on the object). Some other software *cough* solid edge *cough* has some awesome tools to identify regions of a mesh, where you can click on an area of a mesh (or even brush select your desired selection), auto expand that selection (if needed) according to sphere, plane, cylinder, cone, and then generate the respective surface body (or even B-Spline!) based on best fit to the selected area of the mesh.

Fusion has got some mesh tools like generate face groups (yay!), but it only seems to generate face groups for the entire model, I cannot brush select just a specific area and generate an individual surface body. Then our only option is to try convert a mesh to a solid body in one great big leap! This is great for taking someones solid body that been exported to a mesh, and turning it back into a solid body, and also....... oh no wait, that's it, that's all its good for.

Am I missing something? I feel like were nearly there with the current mesh tools in fusion, but I cant help feel like they overlooked a necessary feature, and instead opted for a more complex ability to transform thingiverse junk into solid bodies?

To access it you should enter Direct Edit mode for the mesh body. There you can use mesh brush and access a Create Face Group command which lets you create face group based on selected mesh faces:

But anyway most of the times mesh should only be taken as visual reference to recreate the model using solid and surface modeling tools.

Yes. Have you compared the price tags?

In my experience money is a great expectation leveler 😉

Understandable, but I would imagine developing the feature to convert an entire mesh to a solid body would have been far more difficult to implement than this

Understand, but even if I successfully brush select my own face group, there is not a lot I can then do with it can I? For example using your part in the background of your screen shot, wouldn't it be nice to generate a single surface that followed the top curvature of your mesh, excluding the text.

It is possible to create face group out if any number of mesh faces selected by brush. Create Face Group which is accessible only in Direct Edit mode of mesh does exactly that.

That is probably correct!

In it's current form it really isn't too overly useful other than for Thingyverse stuff. But it is just the first attempt at this and is still in development.
