I don't even understand why it is considered a surface body though.. There isn't even an option to make a coil foom the surface menu, so I don't know why it is is considered a surface body, plus I selected materials in the simulation, so i don't know how it could be a surface body. I did everything as he did it in the video, yet i get an error and he doesn't. But I will have to look at this later

I am following a youtube tutorial trying to apply a load to this torsion spring, and everything is just like the video up to the pointt where I try to solve. His video says he was warnings but can still do the simulation, whereas mine has a flat oout error and says CANNOOT do the simulation as shown in second photo. How do i fix this so that I can do a simulation to twist the torsion spring?

Hi,

Sorry for late reply. I had found and watched the tutorial you were referring to and was scratching my head how in the first place he uses a surface body in simulation. As far as I know Fusion excludes surface bodies from simulation so the method he shows cannot be used. But I was not sure this was possible back in 2020 or not. Maybe @John_Holtz can clear thing up so I am mentioning him.

I suggest you read the error message and correct the problem that is given: delete the load or repair the surface body to make it into a solid.

The only option I found was to create a solid to define the axis of rotation instead of a surface.

Why isn’t it possible to select one of the origin axis?

2. When multiple bodies exist - how can analysis be limited to a particular body?

Hi @TheCADWhisperer and everyone.

The ability to select an axis was not programmed, either because it was not thought about or didn't have time.

You cannot exclude the body and still have it available to select to define the axis. But including the body in the analysis is not significant. This is what I would do:

Make the solid small. There is no need to use thousands of elements for something that is not part of the analysis.

Apply constraints to all the faces. This will further reduce the size for the analysis.

When viewing the results, hide the body. The results shown are only for the bodies that are visible.

Hi @sethineer

You have two bodies in the model:

The spring is a solid. This is correct.

The cylinder that has no thickness and is larger than the spring, it is a surface. This is the problem. Change it to a solid. And make it small so that it is hard to see. Having a huge surface in the model just looks ridiculous.

At 4:09 in the video "Now come to Surface ... Extrude ... and just drag this up".
