If you use open when creating a mesh as a solid model, you need to make a t spline to b rep through convert from the form again after the convert mesh.

However, using insert mesh, a solid model is created with a single convert mesh.

I wonder why there is a difference between the number of converts and the method of generation.

Can you elaborate on this, perhaps by a screencast or screenshot?

The only two differences I know is that:

1. When opening an uploaded mesh design history is initially off and this gives some extra commands in the toolbar, (including the whole Form workspace), contrary to using Insert Mesh in a existing file where design history is on (if you haven't turned it off already).

2. Insert Mesh gives you a few extra options (unit and positioning parameters).
