Issues when using "Insert point" while editing T-spline form

Hi all,

I updated Fusion 360 yesterday, and now the "Insert point" command no longer seems to work when I edit a T-spline form.

I found a Reddit post which describes the problem well, but didn't find anything about it here in the forums, so I quote:

"With the new update my insert point command seems to be busted. I can’t get lines to project onto the geo unless I place a point on each individual edge. But this is slow and creates bad topology. If I try to project a line over multiple edges all that’s created are the start and end points with no projected line between them. This also creates points all over the form creating unforeseen errors."

Has anybody else experienced this?

Hi,

The statement about bad topology came from the original Reddit poster and not from me, so I'm afraid I can't elaborate a whole lot on that. If I were to guess, I'd say that in reality the OP is maybe more worried about the quality and smoothness of the resulting surface than about actual bad T-spline topology. My interpretation, I may be wrong.

Speaking for myself, I'm trying to learn the modelling method demonstrated in several YouTube videos by Mr. Giichi Endo. Using the "Insert point" function to create lines across several edges is one of the fundamental techniques employed there.

The issue has been fixed in version 2.0.14335 which was released a moment ago. Check out What's New. Thank you again for reporting the issue.

@TrippyLighting Can you create a Plane or Cylinder and try Insert Point Simple?
Regarding the Box case in your video, can you rotate the Box before you hit OK on the Insert Point dialog?

So, my Windows version was on 14335 when I created the screencast in my last post.

Obviously I had to shut it down to start it on my Mac.

My mac was not yet on 14335 so it needed to update.

Once it updated and restarted I performed the same test and it also failed to insert points across one or more bridged edges.

Now that I shut my mac down and restart Fusion 360 on my Windows machine it has to be updated to 14336!

But it still does not work.

When I add a point as shown in the screencast, bridging the center edge while in box view mode it does not insert an edge. However, when I do the same thing in smooth view mode it does insert "something" as I can see the shape changing. But it does not visibly add an edge. Neither in smooth view mode, nor in box view mode.

Regardless whether I rotate the model after selecting the edges but before hitting OK.

@TrippyLighting Version 2.0.14335 went live last evening, and 2.0.14336 went live this morning.

Thank you for verifying that Plane and Cylinder work.

I reproduced the issue with Box in the default isometric view. In that case, two new vertices are created, but edges are not. If you orbit the Box before you hit OK on the Insert Point dialog, you may see new edges created. In other words, new edges may or may not be created, depending on the camera view. Since this can be viewed as flaky behavior, I logged this issue as TSP-4314. Peter, thank you for reporting the issue.

It is more then just "flaky". You are correct that vertices/points are inserted, but only on the selected edges, not in the bridged (but not actively selected ) edges. That means for example they cannot be selected for editing.
