I created a pattern sketch, which is not a good practice, to demonstrate the selection of profiles for an Extrusion using a Window. In the video I failed to mention if you do not get a rectangular window, when dragging, touch the "1" key on the keyboard to shift to rectangular mode.

Edit: You do not have to look at the face containing the profiles you are selecting, it just makes it easier.

Extrude entire sketch?

One thing that I really wish we had in Fusion 360 is the ability to simply extrude an entire sketch profile, rather than being forced to select which part of it needs to be extruded. Is there any chance we can get this added, or is there some way to do it that I am unaware of? It often takes quite a bit of time to select the individual areas, and it seems like this should be relatively easy to do?

Obviously, we would still want to be able to select individual areas if we want to.

The only way to do this today is with window select. There is no way to just select "the sketch" and get all the profiles. I can't comment on the likelihood of ever getting this, but I do know that it is not in any current plans.

You can make this easier with judicious use of construction curves, so that there are fewer profiles to select. Another approach is to trim your sketch curves so that there are fewer profiles, although, I personally, dislike that option - I think the sketch behaves better with fewer primitives, so I tend to avoid that.

Thank you for the reply. I would love to know how to "window select". Maybe there is a way that I don't know about. Here is a video to illustrate the problem.

https://vimeo.com/754022666/a61b4a530d

Thank you!

Chris

I created another video to go over the process of setting up Window Select and using a window to select the profiles. I must emphasis, you Left Click and Drag your mouse to create the window. You can practice this on any Fusion 360 screen.

No I couldn't get it to work. I'll try to get back to it and do some objective tests. Maybe it is because of the context of the assembly, or due to the fact that I have a perimeter around the holes? At the moment I had to keep moving on the project but I will get back to this at some point because it is an ongoing issue. Thank you for your help.

The window selection did help for sure. Thank you! However, when I use it, it also picks up the face of the panel, while I noticed yours doesn't. I thought that doing a window from left to right would do a crossing window, and right to left would be a window that only picks up things that are fully enclosed. But for me, it picks up the holes and the panel when I go from left to right, and from right to left only grabs the panel for some reason.

https://vimeo.com/754760556/e28bea781b

I can get the same result, as you do, if the selection view is not square to the Window selection box, I cannot explain what it is picking up. If you square the view up, it will work correctly. Check the video a a technique to square up the view if it happens not be to hooked to a View Cube view.
