Hello,

After giving it some more thoughts I understand that it's not as straight forward as I might have thought. I guess Fusion wants to maintain geometrical definable shapes without self-intersections.

What I'm trying to accomplish is to emulate a 45 engraving bit cutting in wood. Basically visualizing the path that my bit will take if it follows the 3d sketch.

Here's a similar cut made in the manufacturing workspace using a 3d sketch to set the carving path.

In the manufacturing workspace I can see the shape that it's gonna cut which is great but I'm working with multi layered wood and I would like to get a visual understanding of what the cuts might look like when I cut them. In the manufacturing workspace I can't see the full result of what it might look like.

Here's an example of the layered wood in which I made a cut using sweep (but without fillets because that's not possible).

So using sweep will probably not be an option for this. Maybe I could use something in the other design tabs like surface or mesh. I've never used any of this so I'm not sure this would even work...

Any sugestions are welcome.

Thank you TimelesslyTiredYouth and davebYYPCU !

I'm trying to create a simple sweep along a path that's at a 45 degree angle.

It goes fine when the path is simple line with sharp corners but when I try to add a fillet to the sharp corners it fails. No idea why... this seems pretty straight forward to me...

File added to post.

Thx

Hi, @Chronix_07

It looks like the sweep is failing when you add a fillet to the sharp corners of the path. This usually happens because the profile is unable to maintain a constant shape along the curved path, causing self-intersections or excessive deformation. Try these fixes:

Reduce Fillet Radius – A large fillet can cause sections of the profile to twist or intersect.

Use Guide Rails – If possible, use a guide rail to control the sweep.

Enable "Orientation" to "Path" – This may help the profile follow the curvature more smoothly.

Check for Overlaps – Ensure the fillet doesn’t create an impossible geometry.

Segment the Sweep – Try sweeping along straight sections first, then blend the curves.

This is simple to check and hopefully should resolve your problem,

I would open the file and check for you, but Fusion isn't something I can open right now

and I would need some time for that, which I do not have

Hope it helps...

Sleepy Regards

Ricky

Not simple or straight forward when trying to Sold Sweep that body along the curved path.

what are you expecting to happen at the radius in the path - if Fusion did not reject it?

Similar to what you are asking for with a circle in a std Sweep?

Might help...
